So, with CBS showing four races this year and the US rights being sold off, where are we watching live coverage? Anyone know? Brian
Actually, it was ABC that's shown F1 in the past, here are some articles I'm finding about this! http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns14087.html http://insider.speedtv.com/viewtopic.php?t=65483&sid=9b2782bfdad6782992b51357c062aedf Looks like all is not lost! http://insider.speedtv.com/viewtopic.php?t=65491 Speed still seems to plan on showing the rest of the races. WHEW!
Oh no! This sucks. I hate how the networks handle F1 coverage, dumbing everything down to a pre-school level. At least I will be at MTL so that's one less botched coverage I will have to endure.
Thanks for the update. What is odd are the races CBS picked. I would have assumed they pick the American ones (Indy, Canada, Brazil) plus Monaco. But no, they pick Imola, Spain and Nuerburgring. Weird. I guess the good news is, that F1 being on CBS will get it to a greater audience in the US and hopefully help grow the sport. Which is probably why F1 picked CBS for these races. I read some interesting interviews with the supremos of F1 (Mosley, Bernie et al) and they all agreed that F1 needs more coverage in the US and more races in the US. Bring it on, I'm all for it! PS: I hope the guy from Speed (speed1) mispoke when talking about next year. I hope his lineup is for THIS year.
In the past ABC has exclusively aired I think Indy and Monoco! There is absolutly no info on this anywhere including CBS' website where they have published dates for this year's coverage. Please post more info, maybe we get to watch the race live in hidef???
Er, you'll get the race in HD when someone take HD cameras to the tracks. And given that HD has almost no penetration in Europe or elsewhere, I wouldn't count on that happening for a while.
You might be right in regards to the tracks, but HDTV has a huge penetration in Europe. Everywhere you go there it is. It always makes me feel so backwards coming from the US. We should be leading the way, not the Europeans. Remember the Clinton administration that once said by like 2003 only HDTV will be used, sold and broadcast in the USA? Yeah right, I wish.
geez - getting those CBS races in HD would be killer stuff. to die for. my understanding is that bernie owns the feeds - the cameras are all his. is this so? if so, does anybody know if there's HD in the mix there already? were there 2004 HD F1 broadcasts in euroland? doody.
Might be true, not sure. Bernie started his F1 TV with the ultimate high tech approach to sell it. That enterprise tanked, but the equipment is still being used (e.g. those kewl in car camera shots). But I'm not sure whether it is HDTV. One would think so.
funny i was thinking about this yesterday. It would be so awesome to watch F1 in High Def, looks like im gonna be able to.
CBS is to show a 2 hour program for the San Marino, Spanish and Nurburgring races, (not live). The Canadian will air live. The US tele rights are now owned by DEC Entertainment, whoever they are, there is no broadcast data available from them as yet.... Brian
I don't expect SpeedTV to drop out of F1 shows, or are they? O.K. forget about HD, just give us the live shows...
