    Hi all,

I noticed that my front wheels are hard to spin by hand; and if I take the wheel off, very hard to turn the disk by hand (due to lower radius hence higher torque required to move it ) . I know some drag is normal, but how much is normal?

Can anyone with CCM brakes confirm that they do drag a little ? My car rolls in neutral normally backwards and forwards, and I can push it myself alone on flat surface...

I wonder if I need to rebuild the calipers and install new/ clean pistons ? Brake lines can also cause issues, I wonder if new lines would also be recommended.

    Many thanks

Sounds like a stuck piston causing the drag. Have the caiplers ever been taken apart.

No, not yet... I might do it over winter. But I was wondering if *some* drag is normal, for folks with the carbon brakes.

Not any more than standard brakes but they have a very well deserved reputation for pistons sticking and dragging. The pistons were a bad design.

I have an 08, so CCM since birth

I don't recall any drag at all, I'll have to check next time it's up on the Quickjacks

I think if there was drag I would have noticed

Is it same for both wheels?

Can I buy the caliper seals individually, when I remove at least put new pistons and seals in ?

EDIT: Ignore me, I found the seals also in the link @tazandjan posted. Thanks.

You can buy 1 set at a time if you wanted. I did this last year but I rebuilt all 4 calipers

I rebuilt all 4 of my CCM calipers for the same reason, remove the caliper from the disc but leave the hose connected- fit a piece of wood a little bit thinner than the disc between the pads and press the brake with engine on. Then after you let the brakes off, see if the wood comes loose- you might find the small pistons are the worst to seize. 3 out of 4 of my front small ones were that tight.
If your are as bad as mine i had to pump them out with oil pressure, as compressed air was not enough. I have a few pics of items to help remove them.

    I think its normal.
Image Unavailable, Please Login My front calipers were binding a couple of years ago, I could feel it at as I stop/started. I ended up replacing all the pistons (front and back) for HE.
Now my CCM brakes are exactly like yours, I take off all the wheels every winter to clean.
I can push the car backwards and forwards fine, rotate the wheel, but notice as I try and rotate the brake disc u feel quite a bit of drag.

The pistons are a standard mm size, look up seals for motorbike calipers as a lot cheaper and big selection of sizes

I had sticking brakes (ccb) this summer. After driving in stop/go traffic for a while you could feel and hear them sticking after crawling forward slowly.

Had a brake service done, the pads had been cracked, we also replaced fluids and changed the rubber lines, problem solved.

Mines don't make any noise apart from when you apply the brakes, my fluid is always fresh and I have new Pagid RSC1 pad (for track days :) ) ... now changing the rubber lines is something I was thinking of doing. But I need to take at least one apart to see the shape of the cylinders... could be warped and that would explain why they don't retract properly.

Have you tried removing the caliper and clamping on a piece of wood yet ?
