    Hey guys... need help here...

The songle CD player (in the stereo unit) of my 360 Modena started to rattle when I insert the CD in the slot, at times it says ERROR on display and I had to reload again. Sometimes the unit will just keep rattling and won't play the CD.

This is getting frequent, anyone please let me know if there's a easy fix to this.

    1000000 thanks.

    Jimmy

Try a professionaly made CD and see if you have any problems. This fixed it for me. ((The manual mentions that will only take certain CDs but I forget the name they referred to.

It sounds like the laser pickup is out of alignment.

Not an expensive fix, but the radio has to come out.

If its in a 360 then theres a good chance its a Becker unit produced for ferrari and Porsche, if the unit rattles then there is probably something loose, the cd play mech is susspended on 4 gel filled dampers to minimise the shock and prevent skipping, the dampers are surronded by light springs to keep the mech central, if the cd does not play sometimes then that means that the laser pickup is not focusing on the surface of the cd to read the TOC (table of contents) if it cant do that then it will not be able to play it, the laser in the becker units is self aligning, there is only one adjustment and that is the grating adjustment which is done at the factory and can only be adjusted by an engineer who knows what he is doing, if the laser is so far out it can't adjust its self then its time for a new one. adjustments required are focus, focus offset, tracking bias, tracking balance(in some machines) tracking offset, and of course grating, this stuff is only to be done by a competent engineer who has been trained or the machine will never play another cd again. hope this helps.

ps. some machines struggle to play cdr so its best to stick to the pre recoded ones . chris.

If the laser is not reading you should hear it trying to track(electrical sound) If it is an actual rattle, The clamping mech for the cd may have a problem. Find an authorized becker repair center either way. The radio only takes about a minute to remove with the right tools.
