2006 612 F1 I am having a strange problem with my car. The check engine light has started to flash when my car is in sixth gear and 3600 rpm. The CE L light is now solid and the fault codes from my handheld reader show PO304 and PO305 (misfire). Otherwise the car is running smoothly and operating normally. I did wonder if it might be related to leads, coil packs or spark plugs? The car is on the way to the dealer but I wondered if anyone on here might know what is going on?
She has coil on plug ignition, so all the leads do is pass a timing signal to the coils on the plugs, telling them when to fire. No high current flow like conventional coil, high tension leads, and spark plug ignition. Best to have someone with an SD3 look at her and see what the problem is. Could be ignition or fuel injection related.
So the spark plugs and coils have been changed. I haven't seen the SD3 readout but it seemed to suggest coil packs. Where do we go next? I could just leave it up to the mechanic to resolve, but this forum is such a great resource that I thought that I'd ask here first. The warning light flashes ONLY in 6th gear at 3,600rpm. I'd have thought that a coil/lead issue would happen in all gears? If it misfires in 6th gear why wouldn't it also misfire at similar load/revs in 5th gear? I cannot detect any hesitation while the warning light is flashing. Could this be a software glitch rather than a mechanical issue?
Does the reader indicate which coil (exactly) is faulty or do the codes just indicate "general" misfire?
I haven't seen the SD3 readout yet, but my low cost reader shows P0304 and P0305 which is misfires on 4 and 5. The plugs and coils have all now been replaced but the codes have returned.
Strange indeed. Where could I find thr list of error codes? Sent from my HUAWEI P7-L10 using Tapatalk
After changing the coils and plugs the problem continued, but again only in 6th gear. A Ferrari owning friend wondered if it might be a software issue rather than a mechanical issues. So I turned the battery off using the cut off switch in the trunk. After an hour turned it back on an the problem has vanished. I'm glad that I listened to my friend and didn't spend more money investigating a possible physical problem.
Thank you for the update and congratulations on solving the problem. We tend to forget that these error codes/systems are also fallible and may not always represent the actual physical "state". Sent from my HUAWEI P7-L10 using Tapatalk
It's like most computer problems, just shutdown and restart. Solves most software glitches. Good to hear it was an easy fix.
I have the same problem every April when I go on the first ride of the year (the car isn't used during winter) after 3 to 400 Kilomter, only in sixt gear at 3 to 4k rpm. Switching the power on and off for a few minutes resolves it and It never happens for the rest of the year. So I assume no big deal. When I bought however it it gave me a big headache.... Stefan
Bumping this thread back up. I have exactly the same issue it’s been happening for the past 2 years I’ve had the car or so. Check engine light comes on then disappears after x3 flashes it stays on. It’s always at motorway cruising at initially 70 mph ish 6th gear. I once did the same journey x2 and the light came in at the exact same point oddly enough. Had the car serviced a few months ago all 12 plugs changed. There was an air leak on the left bank inlet manifold so had the gasket changed. The issue was looked at and maf sensors swapped around ect to eliminate any issues with them was all ok. Didn’t drive the car over winter been getting a few miles under the belt this year and pretty much at 90 mph Im getting the check engine light and the same P0300 P0305 P0304 codes as I was having in the past. Only other thing I’m noticing is a slightly rough idle on start up. Nothing horrendous but as I pull of just a small varying of revs. I was going to go for the coils next but reading this thread has made me doubt that’s the issue. currently using the autel code reader for reading codes. any ideas on my next steps. Thanks all
