Hello gentlemen, my 360 6sp manual threw a CEL for throttle pedal potentiometer. Anyone ever experience this? Is it possible for it to get dirty or a little corroded and just needs to be taken out and cleaned?

I had the same recently. Also on a trip the throttle unit stopped working completely for about 15 mins. Apparently its a common problem as resistance builds up at the plug. Remove the kick panel if you still have one, disconnect the white plug that comes from the unit, light spray with wd40 or some sort of contact cleaner, wipe, let dry and reconnect. Seems to have worked for me fingers crossed but let us know how you get on.

I removed the pedal assembly and took out the potentiometer and cleaned it as best as I could. Put everything back and no problem, when out for a good hour long drive and so far so good! Thanks for your input, seems like over the years dirt and dust build up could create a signal loss.

I'm curious, what's the mileage on your car?

No worries! So you actually removed the unit from the car and disassembled it? Was it easy to do? Will do the same if my problem comes back. Nice one.

Yea, its pretty straight forward, however mine was just dirty. There wasn't any serious corrosive damage.

Nice. The diagram looks like its quite complicated for my skill level. What bits required removal and cleaning? I might do this as a preventative measure as if the unit stopped working again but this time on a motorway, i would **** myself!

Did you notice any difference in operation from before the problem occured too? Maybe sharper response?

Here's a link to the diagram as my phone won't embed it for some reason...
