My CEL came on today on my 98 355F1 (5.2). I tried two different OBD2 scanners (Snap-On and an Actron unit). Both scanners found no codes present systems passes. Even tried clearing the flash memory. With no help. The extra ground on pin 4 of the OBD2 connector is present also. Sign of the ECU failing or is something I will have to use an SD2/SD3 find out why? Any suggestions? Thanks.

You could have it read with an SD2 at a Ferrari shop. Maybe someone switched the gels around and you are actually seeing the battery light or something else. Check the indicator locations with the shop manuals. This actually happened with mine and I had to get a new set of indicators. Apparently the previous owner had made modifications that caused the CEL light to illuminate, so he switched things around so it still looked like the CEL light would turn on then off when you started the car and he pulled the actual CEL bulb. The bulbs are controlled on a circuit board, so you can't move the locations of the lights around, you can only cut and move the gels around. So the shop manual will show you what the lights actually mean even if the gels are incorrect.

First, I don't know about M5.2...but... Would *guess* that a cel with no codes would mean that
Your ecu is failing a memory checksum internal test and just needs to be reflashed by a dealer.

I say that because that's what you see on M2.7 when an eprom fails, and I do know a little about M2.7!

It happens. 5.2 was rushed to market not unlike Bill Gates does over and over with Windows. It is very buggy. Sometimes in your situation if you have it on an SD2 and ask it to print errors it will print some out. If that doesn't work erase it and see what happens.

I would be certain of proper CEL light functioning as you have alredy been told.

The CEL light is in the right placed it did come a year ago. I cleared it with my actron OBD2 reader. I assume only a dealer can reflash ecu?
