I thought I would share some insight on my recently waterlogged Samsung Galaxy S.

I didn't take the battery out right away, as I had forgotten it was in my swim trunks, and the phone went swimming for a good solid 10 minutes before I realized that. When I took it out, the screen was dead, and the LED flash was illuminated. Oops.

I proceeded to dry out the phone over the next 24 hours.. I plugged in and all I got was a red screen showing that it would charge. This would last about 60 seconds, then it would fail. I then dismantled the phone, and disconnected most everything off the circuit board; including the heat sink. I re-assembled, and the same thing happened again, only once, and un-repeatable.

So I took it all apart a final time, got out the CLR, and q-tips, and cleaned all the leads on all the connections. I reassembled it... cleaned and opened the battery as best I had access to (The circuit board on the battery). and plugged in.

The lone problem: The battery would not charge; though the phone would turn on, tell me the battery was dead, and promptly turn off again.

I had perfect timing, plugged, and unplugged the USB cable... and told the system that it was charging now.

Now I can further stave off my upgrade until Sprint has LTE sometime next summer (supposedly)!

The leads, when I looked closely at them at all the connections on the circuit board had corrosion on them; and the CLR worked perfectly!

Just an FYI, hope this can help somebody and stop them from spending unnecessary $ :)

    *hehehe*

I lost my Galaxy S2 on the floor back on April 19th :) I have tried that 5-6 times. This time was different. The phone was knocked out of my hand and slid under my foot.
it did not survie 112kg stepping on it

Well, the glass front didn't survive.

The phone worked perfectly fine with the cracked glass.

But I went home and looked up spare parts and nearly died.

1600+ DKK for a new front!!!

So I ordered the S3 on May 3rd I think, and got it yesterday!

I will now look for a replacement glass for the S2 and buy a used phone with error on instead of a brandnew front. 1600 DKk is ridiculous!
When I find what I can use I will give it away to my mom. *LOL*

Since it is relatively new the screen is a bit pricey now ... you did right just keep an eye on eBay somebody might have a dead phone with a good screen. A couple of years ago had the same issue with an iPhone and after a few weeks found a dead phone with a good screen for a reasonable price ... swapped it and it worked good.

How did you dry it out?

I've always heard, do not try to turn it on after water submersion, take it apart and place it rice?

I had no rice.. so with a fan first; then with oatmeal (Same logic, right?).

The biggest downside is the battery life is cut down about 1/2 since the incident, and takes 2x as long to recharge it.

I now have a parts-donor phone that a friend destroyed that I'll see if I can replace the earpiece speaker with...
