My Cell phone contract is approching it's end and I wanted to get an idea of who you guys use for providers. I currently have sprint, Their service is pretty good, but the service sucks and they charge too much. I'm thinking of going with cingular, but I don't know what their covreage is like. From their maps the coverage looks good, but looks can be deciving.
    Thanks

Verizon...plan fits me because I travel around the country and have can't remember the last time I did not have coverage - great since my phone is a PocketPC and I use the web alot. Bonus, my wife and mother (Pennsylvania) are on shared minutes nationwide so calls "home" are free. Also, been on Sprint and AT&T in the past and their data coverage was nowhere near what Verizon's is.

Agreed...I have used ATT for the past 12 years...and foolishly continue to do so. Verizon has the lowest number of complaints to the FCC (or was that the FTC?) anyway, people seem to like them best...and they have that program where any unused minutes roll over to the next month...you don't start over each month. Saw this in consumers reports a few months ago. ATT and the most number of complaints.

Dave It looks like you are talking about verison but mention the cingular roll over thing. Does Verizon offer a roll over feature as well? This is the main reason I was thinking of cingluar as my useage can be very inconsistant.

    Brian,

Have you calculated how many minutes you'll use next Month? LOL
(To many commercials during the Olympics)

Verizon, all the way! Good coverage Nationwide. They've invested
Big Money (like 5 Billion+, from ground up) to be the best.
They are a good bet for long term investment to…. Buy Stock!

Stay away from them ATT bastards. Horrible customer service! I made the mistake of switching to ATT from Verizon. I'm switching again, but this time to NEXTEL.

Yup, sorry, I am confusing companies. Reviewing the article, Verizon had the highest customer satisfaction rating.

Warning on Nextel....they say that the Nextel system in limited to their own...you cannot roam on another system...so could be a problem in rural areas.

Agreed as well.....AT&T for ever and switched about 5 years ago to Verizon. Dropped calls are unheard of (at least here in the south) whereas AT&T it was a reagular thing. Been very happy with them for the last 5 years.

I have Sprint and the serviceable areas are rather strange. In some urban spots on the Eastside, my phone would actually go into roaming mode. WTF!? You'd figure urban areas would have the greatest signal strength and coverage. Earlier this year in Cannon Beach, I got very good signal strength on the beach, then it goes back to roaming at the hotel.

Andrew, you didn't know about Willis's alter-ego? It usually pops up when he's in the 360.

I went with Verizon on the recommendation of Robert. He calls me from Greenlake all the time (to Arlington), good calls, good coverage.

For me 500 anytime, unlimited nights and weekends, corporate discount of 20%, about 35.00 a month, tax included.

Agreed. I've been with ATT for much longer than I would admit, primarily due to roaming and international roaming capabilities; but to say they have horrible customer service is being kind! Frankly, from what I can tell, they have one guy in their customer service dept that on occasion decides to take a call. My last three calls to 611 were answered by voicemail that said my wait time to talk to a representative would be "over 20 minutes".....and after about 15 minutes (each time), they just disconnected my call. Exceptional customer service!

Does anybody know if Cingular's buyout offer for ATT is going through?

AT&T cut me off three times while I was trying to cancel my service. Then they had the Ba**s to ask me why I was cancelling!!! If I could have crawled through that phone I'd be in prison for murder right now. This was after they had my bill screwed up for almost 6 months which was why I was cancelling in the first place. UNREAL.

I've been pretty happy with Sprint but have to admit there are probably better deals out there. Worked everywhere I've been except real spotty in Alaska and had some kind of programming issue in Guam (it still worked but was roaming when it shouldn't have been).

I do believe tha Cingular now owns ATT Wireless. By the end of the year, the so call free mobil to mobil minutes will apply to both Cingular and ATT customers, at least that is what I have been told by Cingular.

The only thing abuot Verizon is that I think their choices of phones are very limited and that they are mostly CDMAs as the others are all going the ways of the World with GSMs.

I'll go with the overwhelmingly minority answer and say that I've heard bad things about ATT as well, but I've got NEXTEL and have never had a coverage problem anywhere I've traveled in the area, from Portland to Whistler (I've never gone into the eastern part of the state, but I know coverage ends somewhere around Sultan going east on Hwy 2 and is out through Steven's pass). Their plans work out well for me because I travel a lot and their nationwide plan is very good. I've used the phone in Texas, Florida, California, New England, and a few other places I'm probably forgetting and it always works great.

I've heard good things about Verizon, but one word of caution is that I've got two good friends that use Verizon and neither of them gets any coverage at their house. One lives in Bothell (almost in Kenmore) and the other in Ballard. If you get Verizon, just make sure that it works in your usual places!

Good advice, most plans allow you to "opt out" in the first 30 days if the service areas or coverage don't work out.
