I have been working for some time on a solution to mounting my cellphone in my 2003 360 Spider. I did not want to damage a vent with a vent clip. I did not want to stick anything to the trim or leather. I did want something that was unobtrusive and fit the interior as best as possible. Here's the solution I cam up with The glove box is attached with two screws, so I fashioned a bracket out of aluminum to attach to the driver's side screw. Here's what the bracket looks like (I rattle can painted it semi-flat black): Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login The factory screw is an M5 18mm, which is too short, so I replaced it with an M5 25mm: Image Unavailable, Please Login The mount is a wireless charging mount from Amazon made by "MQUONY" It's pretty compact and has a removable mount: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Here's the mount affixed to the bracket: Image Unavailable, Please Login Installed: Image Unavailable, Please Login And the final mount: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Your timing couldn’t be better. Just got my ‘02 Spider and installed the iPhone connector into the factory Becker radio. Now I have a lightning cable hanging under my radio, so I just plug it into my iPhone and put it on the seat. My initial idea was to run the cable under the center console and have it pop through the ash tray somewhere, but your idea my work well. Thanks for taking the time to post details. Fantastic idea! Thanks for posting, I'll be making one soon! Sent from my SM-N960U using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I have a CS (not sure if the interior is similar to a 360) I use one of these CD magnetic holder and insert it into a horizontal gap b/t the black and red alcantara panel. works well. no damage https://www.amazon.com/s?k=magnetic+phone+car+mount+cd&crid=1I5C88NP7Z589&sprefix=magnetic+ph%2Caps%2C196&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
FYI, the aluminum stock I used was a 1" x 1/8" plate bar. Home Depot sells these for a few bucks. I cut it to length using a carbide saw blade in my chopsaw (carbide cuts aluminum with no issues). I bent it in a vise, used a hacksaw to trim the "eyelet" for the screw and a dremel to finish it off. Took about 30 minutes.
Thank you for sharing! There is no fabric apposed to fabric in that area on the Modena, but I may have to give it a try anyways. Thank you! Kevin
Great solution. I guess this mount also does inductive charging. My preference is for mounts that are magnetic so you can mount/remove with one hand (no clips to open). Anyone know of a mount that is both magnetic and does inductive charging?
I looked and failed to find one. The magnetic field interferes with the Qi wireless charging scheme. Note the one I used allows your phone to be cantilevered in and out with one hand. Here's a different one I considered that has motorized single-hand in/out. I decided against it because it looked bulky.
here ya go. Magnetic and Qi charging (no personal experience. just listing what's available after a quick search) https://www.amazon.com/MPQ2WD-XTSP-MagicMount-Magnetic-Qi-Certified-Micro-USB/dp/B07CXV4RXQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=18QF7BFQHRGAN&keywords=magnetic+phone+car+mount+charging&qid=1558465809&s=wireless&sprefix=magn%2Cmobile%2C194&sr=1-3 https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Magnetic-Charging-Dashboard-Windshield/dp/B07G93NRM3/ref=sr_1_6?crid=18QF7BFQHRGAN&keywords=magnetic+phone+car+mount+charging&qid=1558465883&s=wireless&sprefix=magn%2Cmobile%2C194&sr=1-6 https://www.amazon.com/Nillkin-Wireless-Charging-Magnetic-Samsung/dp/B07CHD3X83/ref=sr_1_18?crid=18QF7BFQHRGAN&keywords=magnetic+phone+car+mount+charging&qid=1558465911&s=wireless&sprefix=magn%2Cmobile%2C194&sr=1-18
Interesting. Nothing compact enough for my tastes, but ... interesting. I'll keep an eye on those to see if any would work with my glove box bracket. If anyone knows anyone who wants to make and market my bracket, I'll give them rights w/o royalties or other compensation!
I wanted to first thank Tom for his ingenuity in designing a cell phone mount for our 360s. Unfortunately, fabrication is above my pay grade! Also much thanks to SCEye for his mounting idea after I'd all but given up hope. I bought a CD mounting kit through Amazon. Unfortunately, the space between panels that seems to be present on the Stradale is non-existent in the Modena. I thought to place the mount sideways in the same position as Tom, and BINGO! Just tried it out on a drive today and no problems! Glad to have this solution, as it was VERY unnerving trying to use GPS with the phone between my legs!!! (BTW, I don't leave this in place. VERY easy to install and remove, so it lives in the glove compartment.) Kevin Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks for the kind words. I am not familiar with the 360 interior. If that's where the airbag is, I'd suggest removing if you have passenger. Don't want an explosion behind a hard piece of plastic. Have a fun weekend.
The airbag is above the glove compartment so there should not be any interference with a mount there.
this works well in my FF - havent tried it in my 360 yet but im expecting it to be fine https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Air-Vent-Phone-Mount/dp/B07HKMSMFL/ref=pd_yo_rr_rp_4/132-5257199-1015002?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B07HKMSMFL&pd_rd_r=9ee52d62-cbdf-472b-b711-564fc69e65a9&pd_rd_w=PYvYd&pd_rd_wg=OqZ04&pf_rd_p=5b2bffa6-877f-4dbd-a411-9578bf4fd009&pf_rd_r=G74TFWA8GGA5V1TWP3TN&psc=1&refRID=G74TFWA8GGA5V1TWP3TN
Probably would be fine. But I don't know exactly how the airbag panel opens. My wife is my cell phone holder and GPS when she's in the car anyways!!! Kevin
