I know this is a Ferrari Forum, however I know there is a lot of cross over with cars this group may have. I just got an allocation for a Panamera GTS, this is a fun car for my wife, I will drive about 20% of the time.

$$$ a side, would you get the Ceramic Brakes? or Stick with the Steel?

    Let me know your thoughts....

  2. Not necessary.

The OEM iron brakes are just fine.

Unless of course, you hate dirty wheels, then, yeah, PCCBs are a must.

Carbon rotors have nothing to do with the brake dust problem on cars; it’s the pads that create the dust. I have changed both of my Maseratis brake pads(steel rotors) to get ride of the dirty wheel problem.

Unless your wife is a very aggressive driver, the steel rotors will serve her just fine.

My wife has steel rotors on her Panamera, but I switched out the stock pads for ceramic. I got tired of washing her wheels every 3 days (no exaggeration :().

    A follow up question:

She doesn't need it from a performance standpoint. Just looking to keep the wheels clean. Would changing the stock pads out for ceramic pads with the steel rotors, be just as good as the full ceramic option? Or does it get you 80% the way there? (I mean by eliminating brake dust)

Probably 99.9% of the dust comes from the pads. Ceramic rotors do nothing to prevent brake dust. Their purpose is to allow for continuous hard braking.

Unfortunately only Hawk pads were available for her car and they do create a little dust, but no where near what the stock pads produced. For years I've used Akebono ceramic pads on my LS460 and on my wife's previous Jaguar S Type. Those pads are remarkably clean. And both of those cars had steel rotors.

Ceramic pads and wax the wheels. You can then go months with just a hose off.
