Albert Einstein: The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. A few years ago, I sold 4 cars to get into an F40: CGT, MSV, Speciale and 16M. I then sold the F40. I bought back an MSV, a Speciale, TDF …and a … CGT. Call me crazy. Don’t get me wrong, the F40 is a pinnacle automotive piece in history. It is an amazing piece of machinery that drives in a very unique way with the turbos kicking in and the go kart like feel of it’s handling. Why CGT? Because Racecar. It physically is/was originally an F1 engine and became the LMP L2000, or 9R3, thoroughbred within a carbon monocoque shell and chassis. With over 70 patents, It simply is what driving is supposed to be, unadulterated pure analogue to stir every titillating sense. The mechanical chatter reverberates through your spine as the carbon monocoque vibrates from the 5.7L NA V10, free revving with instant responsiveness. The smell of the fumes complemented by the vintage leather smell. You are in complete control and connected to the car with precise tactile handling . You have to work at it…it demands concentration and precision, for the Racer at heart. Driving is an art, shrouded by different layers of canvas and colors. This is my Mona Lisa. I think you made the right choice. A F40 is a dream car, but a CGT is the ultimate driver’s car. I seriously doubt any major car company will ever make a car like a CGT again. It is a widow maker. Spiritually, it is like a Ferrari 250 GTO. Fantastic car. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat.com mobile app
I was going to say, next time get a Euro car non-cat, non-adjustable. Might flip the thinking a bit.... The CGT in white is top shelf stuff.
Whoever took the pictures deserved whatever you paid them. Beautiful! And the Speciale with gold wheels... ooof. That's just In the end you are at home with these cars, that's what matters the most. Amazing stable! Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Spectacular cars Eddie. A big part of the journey is figuring out which ones you love and which ones you just really respect. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat
Thanks Anzir, it’s been a long wonderful journey, and it’s great to share the passion with others. I remember we both had 430 spiders over a decade ago, and now you’ve attained the pinnacle! So cool to see you attain your achievements. I know you are honeymooning with your F40, would be cool to hear your ownership perspectives of the F40 vs CGT. Congrats again! cgt, msv and 458 spec are all absolute classics - i've driven all 3 but back when they were cheap I didnt want to buy a cgt just because it annoyed me I couldn't get one in RHD
I do have the updated Michelins on them… I am fortunate to have GMR in my backyard (nice tight canyon run) and I test all my cars through these canyons. Recently I led a Porsche group through GMR and I can say I was pushing the CGT 8/10, and the tires were squealing on tight turns. The handling was extremely balanced (I do have KW’s with lift system on it) and the tires had excellent grip. I didn’t feel any oversteer. Definitely had my adrenaline pumping to the max. It is a handful but extremely rewarding. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That’s a really good question…brilliant car and being in SoCal, I lean towards convertibles. It seems like the 16M never built up a reputation as compared to the SA, but it is a great NA V8. I did track it once and it had a lot of understeer, but I think that factory settings may not be aggressive out of the box. S line exhaust made the glorious F1 sound. I did have the 16M and Speciale together at one point, and I will say that the Speciale is the pinnacle NA V8 for me. The 16M is obviously a bit underpowered compared to the Speciale, and the Speciale has such great balance and power to weight ratio. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks mucho Jerry… gonna be missing you in Monterey this year? I’ll be up there… Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The F40 is also a race engine. I enjoyed my CGT but didn’t compare to the F40 for me. The steering feel of the F40 is unmatched. I found the steering feel of the CGT somewhat numb in comparison. It’s a great car overall though and deserves praise. There will always be this debate - of course they are from two different car generations.
