I had several folks come visit me this past weekend on the North Course asking if it would be possible to put on a race event (most likely in conjunction with another track event) for older Challenge cars. No big deal, not a lot of pressure, just a friendly place to run the cars wheel to wheel as long as the drivers had proper credentials. This would be relatively simple to orchestrate if we could mobilize more than three or four cars.

What say you Mid Atlantic and Southeast 355 and 360 Challenge car owners?

Could potentially be interested with a 360GT. However, if we're going to roll the trailer, what else can I run?

Peter, I'm one of the aforementioned guys (360 CH) you met at North track with Nuno (355 CH) and Ray (360 CH). Why stop at VIR? You should set up a 4 or 5 race series at say VIR, Road ATL, Barber, Sebring and Palm Beach--one a month starting in July. You could run different classes such as 328/348 CH, 355 CH, 360 CH/Stradale, Scuderia, etc. This could bring more cars/participants and help lower costs. Would a 3 day racing school certificate take care of the credential part? Now you'll just need to work on a big sponsor like Coca-Cola.

    Hmmm...

Not trying to make a day job out of this, fellas! Not enough cars to do standalone events, but under the wing of another organization (the way NASA chapters in South Central and South East does with the Challenge cars now), it might work.

Being based at VIR, I see flexibility in many renting organizations that might allow for the "purchase" of a run group session and the integration of a race weekend for competition F-cars with the classes you've suggested.

The key is to put ONE weekend on the calendar well enough in advance to get folks out and have fun, then see what happens. The three-day comp school completion would not in itself be enough, but most all schools that offer that would provide their graduates with the ability to get an SCCA Regional License. All competitors would HAVE to have some credential IN HAND. Just needs to be recognized. NASA, SCCA Regional (or Novice Permit with DS requirements signed off), EMRA and any VMC-recognized club's historic racing license would work.

From what I've heard, this is already being done.

I understand that there is to be a race at the FCA Annual Meet, but the first one was at Homestead (or Road Atlanta, maybe?). Anyway, there are more than a few owners interested in getting their old(er) challenge cars on track in wheel-to-wheel events.

Maybe you're referring to the one at Sebring last month.
