Thinking out loud: would it be best to strip the old paint off the grille before paint? The perforation holes seem small enough, and the existing layer of paint seems thick enough, that I'd think adding an additional layer of paint may "shrink" the holes or risk painting them closed, etc., or otherwise affecting the look/function of the grille. Then again, may be entirely possible to spritz a light coat of paint, enough to restore the appearance without ill effect. Again, thinking out loud, just a concern I'd have about the best way to approach it.

I think there was a thread awhile back about powder coating a challenge grille as well.

I would rough up the grille with scotchbrite, clean it with mineral spirits, and give it a few dustings of paint. Won't clog the holes.
