Hi. So I just bought a 2002 360 F1 spider, and I want to replace the rear grille with a challenge grille. The dealership wants to charge me $1200 for the challenge grille which I feel is a fair price, but then told me that it will require $600 for labor to install it. Does this seem reasonable? I know they need to make money, but it also seems that it should take no more than one hour to install the challenge grill. Also do you think that installing the challenge grille will increase the value of the car? Thanks!
that is 3.6 hrs. how can it take that long? iIt seems that it would be less than and hours work, perhaps even 20 minutes? Perhaps you should try a local body shop? it is a nice aesthetic improvement and will make your car more attractive than a car without it -- easier to sell but not necessarily more valuable. also, it keeps the engine cooler during spirited driving which is good for the engine also, please fill out your profile
Your dealer's a crook. Don't buy it from him . It shouldn't take more than 90 mins , tops.It will only increase car's value if next owner wants one ! http://***************/showthread.php?t=2540&highlight=challenge+grill
Funny....... the ubiquitous omnipresent $600. I don't remember, but I think that's what I paid to put on Tubis. Why is it EVERY dealer ALWAYS comes up with $600 for labor as a quote right off the bat........ "Ay Luigi, how mucha we charga to changa da wipa blades?" "How much we charga to changa da batteria?" I've get challenge fr/rear on my 04 spider, looks great and does make a difference in heat, esp. with Tubis.
Can somebody post pics of a normal front grille and Challenge front grille for me? I didn't know there was a challenge front grille.
Some people just put the grills in and its seems to look okay, if you want to do it like the factory you need the back up rings as well. The stock egg crate one is shown, its a nice look and it keeps big stuff out of your radiators. If you need a cheap source, send me a pm. I just was quotes 2+ hours to replace on of the center brake lamps in my 355- seems easiest way is to take off challenge grill to get at bulbs. So if it costs my $300+ to change a $10 bulb, I could see it costing 1.5 - 2 times the labor to put the new grill on, considering all the tail lamps nees to be rese. Welcome to the f-car world... that's why I always look for the exact car I want- options, exhaust, stereo, wheels, etc cost a lot to previous owner but are hard to recover when selling. You can shop but I'd just take it to who you trust as the price seems fair- under $2K for rear challenge grill... Just my observations.... Eric
Just be aware of one point: Challenge grill is different from a Challenge Stradale grill as the Challenge grill has smaller holes.....the CS grill is also more expensive
I removed the stock rear grille on my 360 and put on a Tubi carbon fiber grille and it took me less than an hour to do it myself. There isn't much to it. I believe it's 22 nuts (including the 2 for the Cavallino) that have to be removed plus the 4 connections for the tail lights. Seems to me at $600 the dealer is overcharging. Andy
Back in 2000 when I ordered my 360, the rear Challenge grill cost about $500 as an option. Glad I ordered it with the car instead of buying separately afterward. Had to eat $600 for a pair of front Challenge grills as they were not available as an option back when I ordered my car. The lesson is to load up the car when you order a new one when the options are "cheap" or regret paying through the nose later.
