So the Challenge grill I have on my car is steel (painted) as it's magnetic. The P/N is 65511400. When reviewing the parts diagrams for road cars, I cannot locate a challenge grill even though they became an option in 98/99. The part number referenced above is only shown on the challenge diagram. I tech I know who is a good friend says the grills were aluminum at one time but I cannot locate a different part number so it makes me assume Ferrari changed from an aluminum grill to steel without changing the part number. Anyone have a part number for an aluminum version? Barry - what does your Challenge car have?
Hi Dave, My Challenge grill is aluminum. It was installed in 1995 prior to their availability as an option on road cars. Barry
For completeness, Barry just sent me this information via email: The original F355 Challenge grill was Part Number 65083400. It was superceded by P/N 65511400. Perhaps that reflected the switch to steel. I'm not sure when the switch was made.
Right. Thank-you, Dave. It couldn't post that earlier while I was at the hospital. Here are some pictures of my car. The first one was taken during testing in early 1995. Note the prototype Challenge exhaust with its three outlets, two of which were scorching the paint on the rear valance. The second is a picture of my car today with its early Challenge grill... Peter Sachs piloted that car in the 1995 and 1996 North American Challenge Series, Grant. I'll have to shave six seconds off my best lap time at Lime Rock Park to be in his league. But then again, I want to keep the car in one piece so I'll continue to drive at 8/10s at track events.
