I just purchased a 355 spyder. It does not have the challenge grill. So the question is which looks better? The Challenge grill or not. I guess it can depends on the color of the car..........its Red/Tan
I love the look of the challenge grill. Also it keeps the engine bay temps a bit lower (though it maybe a moot point in Scotland). Go for the grill.
Barry, your car is sweet, but it would be sweeter with the challenge grill. Call Daniel, his prices are the best in the country, wait, the world... Trust me, I checked everywhere before I bought mine
Well, I called Dan. Came home and there was a big box on my doorstep. Looks good, easy to install. Excuse the poor photo quality, it is dark here. Put in K&N filters from Dan, too. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm not sold that it looks "better", but did it for functional cooling. 355's really get hot! It looks great both ways, will just have to get used to it.
Awesome Barry! There's nothin like a little DIY on your own Ferrari! I just re-did the HVAC pannel, ashtray and sticky gear shift surround thingie. Looks awesome. This calls for a weekend drive!
That's funny, I just replaced the HVAC panel with Dan's replacement, too! I like the DIY route, did my Hyperflows and Capristo's myself, gives you a sense of accomplishment and pride! Thanks Dan! Ricambi is "highly recommended"!
The CH grille looks good..but, unfortuanately the street grille is based on the 95 version CH which doesn't cool very well. In 99 the Challenge cars received an updated grille(like F40/F50) and it really works, and looks even more awesome.
bcwawright, I know you are a super-knowledgable, technically-proficient automotive genius as proven by all of your informative previous posts, and I say this with all due respect, but after installing my CH. grille(not sure if it's a 99' grille or not, Cavallo Rosso told me it was from a Ferrari dealership) in my '95, I noticed an average decrease of roughly 10 to 15 degrees on both the coolant gauge and the oil temp gauge. Does the '99 grille cool more than this? Just curious.
Daniel at Ricambi told me his infrared thermometer showed a significant temperature drop with the standard Challenge Grill.
I never said the garden variety 95 type CH grille did not work. What I am saying is that it did not work very good...even though it makes a small contribution to underhood temps, the 99 version grille is spot on and looks great too. I do not think very many people(including owners of early CH cars) even know this upgrade was available, and it fits the street cars. BTW, it is cheaper than the early grille. Footnote: The 95 version of the CH grille may reduce temps a little when car is not moving, but due to the design, at speed the grille acts more like a solid grille. The 99 version grille flows great from stand still to 180+ mph, and because it aids in reducing the pressure at the rear of the car both the wing and undertray diffusers work better.
