Introducing FCA 2011 and The Seibert Cup

The meet honors the Challenge cars, drivers and teams as its themes. The legacy (348/355) and contemporary (360/430) cars will compete in a wheel-to-wheel race to commemorate the series.

This race is named in honor of David Seibert, whom Forza called the father of the North America Ferrari Challenge Series. David was also the administrator of he former Ferrari Shell Historic Challenge. He will be there to help ensure that all drivers enjoy the event, and that it is run in the original spirit of the Ferrari Challenge.

Rules have been set in place that make sure The Seibert Cup will be won by the best driver, and not just the fastest car. So, in theory, a 348 or 355 could win The Seibert Cup!

This event, FCA 2011 www.fca2011.org, has something to offer for everyone. The Racer, Track Rat, the Lover, Wife, and Family..... the cook can check in with Paula Dean at Lady and Sons on West Congress Street www.ladyandsons.com.

First of all, this is being held in one of America's great cities-Savannah Ga. Did you know that Savannah was the fist planned city? http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/n....jsp?id=h-2547

A perennial top ten destination, our host hotel is the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa on Hutchinson Island, only a 5-minute free ferry ride to Savannah's beautiful, historic downtown riverfront.http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarG...8105&key=AC670

Our track is the 2.0 mile Grand Prize of America track on Hutchinson Island in Savannah, GA, only a short walk from the hotel. The track, built in 1997 for an Indy car race, has recently been renovated and much improved. It is the host track for the Historic Sportscar Racing in conjunction with the Hilton Head Island Concours.

Check out this promo video done by SCAD-one of the best media arts and design schools in the world. This is actual footage of America's first great automobile race- The Grand Prize of the Automobile Club of America that was held in Savannah in 1908 http://www.americangrandprize.com/id8.html.

And here is a rolling slide show with track, hotel, and city scenes

Our concours will be held on the Westin's manicured golf course driving range, surrounded by the track. You are encouraged to come early, stay late, as the Westin offers our club's discounted rate for three days before and after the meet and there is so much more to see and enjoy in Savannah, Hilton Head and the nearby Georgia and South Carolina beaches. Savannah has many alternate hotels ranging from the Marriott, Mulberry Inn, Hyatt and Bohemian to dozens of fine bed and breakfast inns.

Check out this map to see just how convenient everything will be (this can be seen here www.fca2011.org if this link will not load)

Please note the actual race will take place Friday morning, giving you time to enjoy the rest of the weekend with family or friends, or head off to another event if Concours, beautiful beaches, and partying in a historic town with incredible nightlife is not for you.

Jump in now, rooms are sold out Wednesday and Thursday at the host hotel, but the Bohemian and others are calling.... www.bohemianhotelsavannah.com/

Very cool to have the 'Seibert Cup' and to honor Challenge cars.

Sadly, that particular weekend has two other Challenge type races, with F1 at Montreal and FCRA at Sebring; so attendance will be a bit diluted. What are the odds???

If not for the calendar conflict, I would've come.

    Mark,

Thanks for the interest, and yes, timing could have been better, but Savannah is shaping up to be a great event. David Seibert, who is working with us on the Challenge race, was disappointed when the conflict with Montreal popped up, but he said he wishes you well in Montreal. The date was chosen by the committee prior to The Canadian Grand Prix being announced.

We already have over 300 registered, and expect that to just about double. Savannah is such a great city, with so much to offer the participants and family. We will miss having you there! It is really good to see interest in the Challenge cars with all the great shops supporting them. The main thing is to get out and use them as they were intended to be used. We are encouraging all to attend, as there is something to offer everyone with events planned throughout the week.

Canada is too far of a drive for me and I'm sure a lot of others, and I know that they will
have a lot of other activities at the FCA International meet other than track time. I was
wondering if anyone knows if the event at Sebring is just a race or do they have other
things planned? Savannah is a great city with plenty to do (for the wife), but what about
    Sebring?

Are cars participating in these events required to have Classiche Certification?

Absolutely not! We are accepting stock as raced, and modified challenge cars; and let's face it, most are modified by now. There will be a class for everyone, and the race is based on the same principle as the Historics. From what I understand, this will help ensure that the best driver will have a chance at winning. So in theory, a 348 or 355 could be the overall winner.

Where we do have some really firm rules, are in driver qualifications. We want experienced drivers who can race wheel to wheel, who are gentlemen racers, who will not allow the "red mist" to overcome their sensibilities. This is for fun, not for money, ego, pride-not for the win-at-all cost mentality. My hope is that people have a great time in Savannah with their friends and family, and will remember this race for all the right reasons.
