Has anyone tried this wheel on a Mondial, or 328 for that matter?...
Has anyone tried this wheel on a Mondial, or 328 for that matter? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-SPEEDLINE-STYLE-FERRARI-CHALLENGE-Wheels-360-355_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43957QQihZ011QQitemZ320104851750QQrdZ1 If they are a fit for the 355/360, they should work on a 3.2 Mondial - right? They are a little less 'open' than some of the other designs out there and may hide the tiny brakes better than say a 360 wheel. I also like the somewhat darker color compared to the bright silver. No... for one thing, the rears are 10.5" wide, and you'll probably not have enough clearance unless you get a set of fronts for all the way around. You'd need adapters in any case, since the offset both front and rear is 52mm which doesn't match stock for your car.
That is the same wheel that I have on my Mondial. It fits without needing adapters. You will need different lugs however.
I went with that style wheel, but had Forgeline produce them custom. Super lite, titanium bolts, full polish for strength. I could not be happier. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The eBay wheels (link above) are those made-in-China wheels that pretend to be modular. They are sold by a company called Modular Wheels, which, in itself, implies a more sophisticate wheel than they really are. Here is a thread that makes interesting reading: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56690&highlight=modularwheels Caveat emptor
Yes, they are 18". I believe they are 8.5 up front and 10 in the back. If you call Highline Wheels and ask for Carlos Yanez he should remember the formula for my car. These are not a true 3 piece wheel rather a 1 piece unit made to replicate a far more expensive wheel. I could not justify spending upwards of $5,000 for wheels on an older Mondial. As far as the China thing, I didn't care. Hell, more than half of everything we purchase today is made in China. My experience with Highline Wheels was a good one. I know of other people that have had the opposite but don't know the complete story either. I know it is hard to find a nice alternative wheel to fit the Mondial without spending a small fortune. Going this way gave me the look I was after and enough left over to put on a Tubi and get a new fuse box. Since I'm selling the car whoever buys it will get the original wheels as well. I should mention the original wheels are high polished so I guess they're not really original in appearance.
Mike, I believe they are 10.5's in the back. I've been looking for the invoice all weekend to verify. The rear tires are 265/35/18. The car has been in the shop for the past week so I can't even just go out and have a look for you.
I just spoke with someone at Highline Wheels and they told me I have 8.5" in front and 10" in the back. When I first ordered the wheels they thought I might need spacers. However, when I did my test fit it was more than obvious that they fit fine with out them so I sent them back and was refunded my money. They don't touch the springs or stick out side the fenders. It should be noted that my car is an ABS car but I doubt that would have anything to do with the fitment.
AWESOME! I don't know about the Mondials, but on a 328 there *is* a difference in offset between ABS and non-ABS (ABS have +38mm Front; 8" +63.5mm Rear offset, non-ABS have +11mm both fronts and rears).
It's been my experience that all Mondial wheels are interchangable and the non-ABS cars have the same offsets as the ABS Mondials; e.g. Mondial t wheels fit a Mondial 8 with no change in offset. This is due to the Mondial being designed at the outset with a 'zero-scrub radius'. I'll re-check, but I think the offsets non-ABS and ABS Mondials are virtually identical. best rt
Anything yet on that offset verification? I have a non-ABS 3.2 Cab. What about lugs? I wouldn't imagine the standard TRX wheel lugs would work - that would be too easy. Do standard 360 lugs work?
Dig through this thread there might be something in it that will help (I haven't looked): http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8361&highlight=308+offset
HPINFO, I had to get different lugs for the Modular brand wheels. The diameter of the lug holes on these wheels is smaller than factory Ferrari wheels. My new lugs were also a little shorter in length. Since I still have my factory spare I carry 5 factory lugs with me in the event I need to put it on. I also have a seperate lug wrench for the non oe lugs.
