Champagne: Put in the Fridge?

    For those who don't have the luxury of a wine cellar, I noticed a lot people tend to put champagne/sparkling wine in the refrigerator. I recently read that you shouldn't do it because it makes the flavor go flat and the vibrations from the cycling on and off of the fridge (and opening and closing it) also impacts the quality as well. Is this true?

    Well, if it is then somebody should let all those traditional "methode champenoise" producers know they've been mucking up the flavor by riddling the wine every few days, sometimes for years, before selling it. Those idiots at Moet! What were they thinking?

    Honestly, the whole vibration thing seems like a fabrication dreamed up to sell Peltier cell based wine chillers. These are the same people that will tell you that their system is more efficient (since it draws fewer watts when running) when at best case, by my research, it will consume 5 times as much power (and probably 10) to keep your wine cool. I will say that some of the Peltier ones have the advantage of multiple temperature zones, if that is significant for you.

    I have two zones, the refrigerator for sparkling wine, and the (compressor based) cooler for normal wines. There is an approximate 10F temperature gradient from top to bottom in the cooler, so the whites go on the bottom and the reds at the top to take advantage of this.

    The only time Champagne is going to go flat is when its been opend. you can keep a bottle for a couple of days but it will go flat no matter what you do.

    The best champagnes should be chilled to about 48 F not much lower or you blunt all the flavors... but I like it colder than warmer! the worst Champagnes - get them as cold as you can!

    Actually, they can go flat, even unopened. I have had it happen. If your serious about wine, you'll still drink it since it is made from great grapes.

    I heard if you put the vacuum pump wine stopper it will delay the flatness somewhat
