John, certainly that is your opinion, and I respect your love for the car. I don't share your thoughts, and the Top gear special will not change my mind. I know what I enjoy about an exotic car, and I find the Diablo fits my needs. But we are all Lambo lovers.......with much different tastes.
...Well , one thing is for sure : Miura awakens passion everywhere as it did 40 years ago. and also I have to admit it: this poll result is breaking my heart. I have nothing against Diablo but come on; Miura is far beyond than any other car anytime anywhere etc.
uhh..thanks, anthony, i assume you meant it in a loving way . let the truth be told, i'm one of those who has never seen a miura in person and has very little understanding of its historical significance so my appreciation is grossly understated....(would love to see one in person someday).
This was a FUN poll about your favorite Lambo. It wasn't about which will be worth more in 30 years, or which car has more historical importance. The Miura was from a different era. If the question was "historically speaking, which Lambo did more for the Marque in its time", well, a different winner. If the question was "which will be worth more in 30 years", again, the Miura. But it was just a basic "Which is your favorite Lambo' kinda thing. No offense to the Classics. My opinion was simply my opinion. No harm intended to the Miura.
I voted for the Diablo because to me, it represents the peak, or ultimate evolution, of the Lamborghini design. The cars before it (including the Muira) were building up to it and the ones after it just don't measure up in my opinion. I understand that the Muira was at the forefront of the mid engine design and I understand where it falls in automotive history and I love it. But to say that anyone who voted for the Diablo is not a connoisseur is simply elitest and hardly fair. You can't group yourself based on your favorite Lambo and then say that anyone whose opinion differs makes them less of an enthusiast. Its an opinion, and I am sure someone out there thinks the Espada or the Jalpa is the best Lamborghini ever. Sure, I would stare at them ackwardly, but hey, atleast they know enough about Lamborghini to know what either of those cars are.
I think we all share a great love for Lamborghini. Not to be arguementative either AJ. : ) Though i would like to add that the most postered car and most exotic car of all time is the 5000 S Countach. Second to Farrah , the countach draped more walls and covered more magazines than ANY car. The Miura plus The Countach plus The Diablo equals Lamborghini BOTTOM LINE... The company would not be what it is to so many if it werent for all of the cars. You cannot pick a favorite. Without the Countach there would have been no Diablo without the Miura there would have been no Lamborghini hahaha and without the success of the Diablo there would be no future.
Martin: The poll is only a poll. It really does not matter one way or another. This site is frequented by people, who prefer the latest and greatest. The poll would not be even close, on the classic Lamborghini site/Lamborghini Classic Garage. The Miura has done very well, considering this is a site frequented by people who prefer the latest fastest cars. Most people on F.C., are devoted to just the new cars. - That tells you how well the Miura has actually done.
its an interesting question, the BEST lambo ever...of course the best can mean the best sports car, the best looking, the best performing, the sounding, etc....for looks, i give it a tie...both great looking in their own way...of course the diablo is the better sports car being more modern and better performing...i would like to have seen the murci in the poll, just to see how many votes it would have garnered....i think the murci and gallardo are the best lambos as far as day in day out performance, ease of use and quality of contruction...but they may not have the visceral feel of the older, wilder lambos.....
To me, the term "Best Ever" means the one that defines or puts Lamborigini on the map. I think you will find little disagreement from anyone that knows anything about cars, especially the historical significance of the Miura, not only as a break through model from Lambo, but also as the car that set forth change in ultimate sports car design. Afterall, many feels that it was Miura that forced Ferrari to leave the front engine-rear drive format and to start building mid-engine sports cars. With all due respect, as nice as the Diablo is, it did not take the automotive industry by storm as the Miura or the Countach did when they were introduced. Diablo is suppose to be "nicer", easier to drive and all that jazz. It is the newest model out of the three, so to me, IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE FASTER AND EASIER TO LIVE WITH etc. I have always felt that the Diablo was riding on the coat tails of the Countach, much the same way that Michael Jordan would not have been THE Michael Jordan if Larry Bird and Magic Johnson did not pave the road for him. Needless to say, that still should not take anything away from Michael Jordan as he was purely amazing but without the Bird/Magic duel of the 80's, Jordan may not be as large as an icon as he is today. PS: If this poll is so meaningless, then why does anyone of us bother at all? What is even the point to creat this poll in the first place? And another thing, I love the fact that there are many people voting on this topic without even knowing A THING about the Miura, that give this poll a lot of real credibility, don't you think?
OK Sherman. Put yourself in the wayback machine and set it to 1965, when the Muira was shown to the public for the first time. There was NOTHING like it at that time. It was sex on wheels. It was a totally modern design. It was fantastic, and blew the minds of everyone. It was the FIRST modern day supercar. Fast forward 25 years or so for the Diablo intro. It did not have the same impact. At least it replaced the way out of date and far too goofy looking Countach. The Muira is a landmark and very significant automobile. The Diablo is a fast car. The Muira is sex personified. No other car comes close, except maybe a Bizzarini 5300 Stradale. How can you look at the Muira and not want to make love to it? Ok - maybe I better stop now... -steve
I've come to the ultimate conclusion about this thread: it shows nothing but Diablo is the MOST LIKELY car to be owned by guys in this forum while MIURA is by far the most beautiful sexy car ever made regardless of brand and if we must reduce it to LAMBORGHINI: then COUNTACH is the winner and those who find it OLD they are not worth to discuss here.
It is interesting. Each of the three supercars is quiet different. They each have very nice particular traits. Some traits are not so nice. Actually the Miura is the easiest to drive of the three (minus the AC)(around town). It is small and nimble. The Miura has the best outward vision of the three cars. It makes nice power given its low weight. It is a really special car. (I am not including the Murcielago in this comparison) The time to buy a Miura is now. They are still within reach. The black Miura SV just sold for 450K. That is a new record price. The SV is a different car, from the P400 and S. I also would love to find a 350/400GT. - Those are also real works of art.
Why are the guys who voted for the Muira so insistent on trying to belittle those who voted for the Diablo? You have to come up with some lame excuse about how those who voted for the Diablo know nothing about the history of the Muira. BS. We cannot get in a time machine and go back to 1965, this is 2005. No one who voted for the Diablo has anything bad to say about the Muira or those who voted for the Muira. I have yet to call anyone an old fart or old fashioned, but the insults keep flying from the Muira camp. Get over yourself. Not everyone here has to agree with you. And obviously not everyone wants the latest and greatest since the Diablo trounced the Murci and Gallardo earlier. In regards to those saying that there would have never been a Diablo if there hadn't been a Muira. According to "legend", there wouldn't have been a Muira if there hadn't been Ferrari, so forget Lamborghini and lets all get Ferraris. The past is infinite, so it is pointless to try to hinge the existance of one thing on the existance of another. If the Muira hadn't been created, something else would have filled its place. I love the Diablo. Trying to tell me I don't know anything or that I don't have a true understanding of Lamborghini isn't going to change that. The Diablo defined the modern supercar and its place in history is in very firm cement.
