I have been told that the headlights are sealed items..not possible to change out the xenon bulbs or position lights. Was thinking of changing out the position lights to LEDs for a whiter look. Its yellowish now. And maybe change out the 4300k xenon bulbs to 6000k ones. Any ideas ?
If you look in your owner's manual, it will tell you how to change all the light bulbs in the car, including the headlight bulbs, in the emergency section. Whoever told you the bulbs could not be changed does not know what he is talking about and should not be relied upon for servicing information. The lens assemblies are sealed units with no service parts, but all late model Ferraris have provisions for changing the bulbs in all those sealed assemblies. If you crack a headlight lens, you are out of luck, but bulbs are no problems. Taz Terry Phillips Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks guys. Would you believe it was my local authorised Ferrari workshop that gave me this info? They say not possible to change the main beam bulb. Let me try and change the xenon bulb to something whiter in colour at 6000k. Oh...when I said position bulbs, I meant the long strip that runs inside the main headlight assembly. Not the position lights at sides. This long strip currently illuminates yellowish in colour. Newer models have them much whiter.
A Scandinavian owner of an F430 just changed out those strip lights. Do a seach in the 360/430 forum to find the thread. Taz Terry Phillips
My dealer is still adament the main headlamp xenon bulbs can not be changed. He checked their workshop manual and it offers no advice on changing bulbs...which means if the bulb blows..the entire headlamp assembly has to be changed! Doesnt sound right to me.. so I have gone ahead and bought a philips 6000k xenon bulb in the appropriate size D1S, and will be getting another workshop to install them. The mechanic tells me it can be done so I will update you if it works. Btw, the owners manual offers no advice on changing of xenon bulb..just the position lights which are H6W.
Both the 612 and 599 have the same Xeon bulbs and both owner's manuals and the 612 workshop manual say they are replaceable. Here is the 612 WSM page, unfortunately without illustration. You just have to make sure no power gets to the bulbs while changing them. Here is also the listing of bulbs from the 599 OM. My mistake saying the OM told you how to do it. It says, see dealer. Nobody would design a car with bulbs that cannot be replaced. Taz Terry Phillips Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Got the bulbs in question changed. Other dealer did the job in an hour. The main bulb is now 6000k..flash white by Philips. Looks great. Put in a dark blue tinted H6W bulb that illuminates the position strip lights..but it didnt come out as white as I had hoped for. I have used such bulbs for other cars before and it would be sufficient to change the yellowish hue parking lights to white..but in this case, the position strip lights are still quite yellow. May try Leds soon for this but am wary of causing any warning lights to come on due to the big difference in wattage. Terry, I asked you previously about spacers. Will likely do this soon as well but was warned by the dealer that it may wear out the bearings earlier. 15mm for fronts and 20/25mm for rears. Imo...unlikely to cause major destruction but the spacers will make the stance of the car look so much better.
I love a happy ending and glad you found a competent service person. I contacted Paul Hill of Hill Engineering and he updated his website. Ricambi carries his spacers, too. The ones you want are marked 114 mm for the 114.3 mm bolt spacing on your car. Those below include new, longer bolts. They have 11 mm, 15 mm, and 20 mm spacers. I highly recommend these spacers and have HE spacers on my car. http://www.hillengineering.co.uk/catalog/wheel-spacers-type-spacers-bolts-c-14_42.html?osCsid=d32320bd3eb38ecbd06570100b0a2604 If you want thicker, try this company. Be very careful of any 10 bolt spacer (spacer bolts to hub, wheel bolts to spacer) that does not have hardened inserts for the wheel bolts. The all aluminum spacers will cross-thread easier than you can believe. A wheel falling off is not a good deal. I had a set of H&Rs I threw away. http://www.spurverbreiterung.de/index.php?lan=de&ecu= Taz Terry Phillips
