I recently just changed to brand new hood shocks. Took quite a bit of extra effort to close down the hood on both sides. When I attempted to open the hood again the passenger side opens, but I cannot get the hook on the driver side to release the hood on the driver side. Who knows how to open the hood so both hooks on passenger side and driver side wheel release? Help! Thanks so much!

The new hood struts may be putting too much pressure on the hood latches in the closed position, based on your comment of how much extra effort it took to close down the hood. Try having someone push down slightly on the driver's side of the hood at the latch while you try to release the latch with the handle from inside the car. The slight downward pressure may unbind the latch and allow it to release with the cable. If that is successful, you may try greasing the latch mechanism/hook to facilitate easier release when you pull on the release cable. If the greasing/lubrication does not help, perhaps the new hood struts are just too "strong", for lack of a better term, and are causing too much binding of the latch mechanism in the closed position.

I did try pushing on the hood from the driver side, to try to get the hook to disengage. No such luck. I'm thinking or wondering if there is a way to get access from somewhere else. Cannot see how that's possible, though.

Is it possible to remove the driver's side front wheel and wheel well liner and access the latch from below?

Not possible and you've got the manifolds in the way. This being said there is a backup release cable. I would try to slightly slide the hood forward, press it down while pulling together the release lever and the backup cable.

Will require a few pairs of hands...

There must be an emergency cable release in case that cable brakes, up in the passenger foot well area, to open the hood, correct? What would be the emergency hood open troubleshoot? Hopefully that makes sense. If the cable were to break how could the bear claw latches on the left and right side be manually released some other method?

*** posted this then saw the message right up above!! There sounds like there is hope! I can't push the hood forward. It's bolted down very securely. But the emergency cable release. Where the heck is that? :)

One emergency cable for each side: one in the glovebox, one next to the steering column

On Series 2 400i, the emergency cables come thru a hole under dash close to firewall and side of car on each side. Use some kind of plastic gripper as cable will need a good pull and cable tough on fingers!
