My brother has a 2006 Scag with the handling package. Whenever I drive it I find the chassis sometimes has a slight lateral bobbing feeling over uneven roads, like it's wagging it's ass a bit. My brother feels it too but it doesn't bother him much. The Ferrari mechanic says it has to do with the long wheelbase. I find that strange because a long wheelbase should give more lateral stability, not less? There's another thread on this forum about the same subject, so we're not alone in feeling this dynamic strangeness. The tires and alignment are fine.

Last week we drove a brand new 2009 HGTE Scag. To me it felt exactly the same as my bro's car. My brother, OTOH, said he thought the chassis felt tauter with less of that sideways looseness. He also said he thought the F1 gear changes felt slicker in the new car.

So my questions are; does anyone know if there have been any suspension / HGTE upgrades between 2006 and 2009? Also, have there been any upgrades to the F1 'box and if so is it just software that can be installed on an older car?

    TIA.

Welcome from a fellow South African.

As far as I am aware there have been no fundamental suspension changes, apart as you say the option of the HGTE pack, which I think does consist of stiffer springs and perhaps different anti roll bars.

The changes to the F1 box are probably software related and one should be able to have this upgrade retro fitted!

Car feel is going to be highly subjective.. I have driven the older (2006) scags and I currently have a 2008 OTO.. my newer car definitely feels more taught and responsive.. never noticed any feelings of the car being lose or wagging and honestly don't remember feeling any of that in the older scags. Now, with that said, driving the cars hard.. I think most Ferrari's feel a little light in the ass when pushing them in some corners, almost to the point of being unsettling. I have always had all my cars suspension dropped as low as possible and added a bit of negative camber to cure that problem.

    Thanks for the responses.

My brother's weekend car is a F430, and I drive a 996 GT3 RS as a daily driver, so that might explain why the Scag feels a bit "loose" to us. BTW, I'm not talking about corners, I'm talking about cruising in a straight line over irregular surfaces - the Scag feels a bit laterally "shifty" at the rear.

Anyway, I was hoping someone knew definitively if there were any suspension changes after 2006 because, as rberg32 stated: "my newer car definitely feels more taught and responsive". So I was wondering if this is definitely real or possibly imagined.

Regarding the F1 gear change, I believe there definitely have been upgrades since 2006. I'm trying to find out if it's just software that can be loaded onto the older car.

I have been lucky enough to own a 2005 612 and recently picked up my 2009 OTO with the HGTE pack. The car has never had a "loose" chasis, my 05 was great and was very smooth....I didnt even think the gearbox was too bad. My 09' is a lot more refined in the gearbox area. The Auto mode is slightly less jerky, but the SF-1 is amazing!!!! Suits the engine mapping very well and has great ratios to maximise the tourque. What you notice most is the car feels more agressive due to the lighter wheels, carbon brakes and amazing HGTE pack. But this can only be noticed if your driving hard. The rest of the time...its just silky smooth and absolutly perfect.

The interior tweeks are also a big jump on the 05'. Much classier and of course a better place to sit.
