Hey everyone, assuming you have a 550 you want to entirely change the carpet color from Blue to another color like black for example or you just want to put new fresh carpeting in..is it a doable not super difficult? With Porsche's the Carpets are glued into the car and its a huge PITA to remove the carpet and all the residue left behind..is the 550 easier?

Has anyone taken on the project of replacing their 550 carpets? i know this would be a little crazy but there is a car i have my eye on and i'm thinking of replacing the carpets in to a different color maybe changing entire interior color...

    Hi,

i don’t know but I’s expect it to be very much like the 456GT. I took out every piece of carpet, except the pieces on the sills, for cleaning (steam cleaner and a boat carpet cleaning wet vacuum cleaner) and because it was the only way to get the original stereo repaired.

We just finished a weekend event with 500+kms and my wife was complementing how pleasant the car was and how good the stereo sounded.

I would never change the colours, but YMMV.

The rest is just layered and held by screwed in carpet fasteners and trim pieces but on the center tunnel the carpet was glued on in some placeds and being 20+ years old I did get some tears in it, but once put back in with some glue I think it turned out quite nice. Pics in the 456GT stereo threads.

    Cheers!

perfect this is great news, I was looking at some diagrams too and seems the carpets in 550 are also screwed in for the most part- not glued on like Porsche. The interior of the car I’m interested in is Blue and I’m not crazy about blue / dash has pulling so need to redo it at some point and thinking just redo all in a color I like..or maybe I’ll “accept” the blue and leave it all blue- we will see..

    Hi,

Sure, what’s the exterior colour, paint?

I have only had one car with a blue interior and blue carpets, it’s a Silver 1975 Jaguar XJ6C (manual +o/d) and I much prefer the blue, although it’s a bit dark and most people THiNK it’s black, unless I have the windows open. Black would have been boring IMHO.

Very classic look, also I really like the Red / Rosso Connolly VM.3171 interior in our Silver (Argento Nürburgring) 456GT. :D

    Cheers!
