I'm in the process of changing suspension bushings in my 1973 Dino 246 GTS and after removal of the front A arms, both front suspension mounts had the previous bushes welded in.
    I was expecting press fit.

    Anybody else seen this before?

Yup! Take the A-Arms to a shop to have the old bushings pressed out and the new ones pressed in. The weld is just a tack weld. Unless you ave a press, don't do this on your own! If the shop you take the A-Arms to can bead blast them, you can paint the after the bushings are installed. I paid $50 to have all eight bushings done. Worth every penny!

The tack welds are to keep the bushing's outer sleeve from wearing the a-arm hole oversize, or even worse, oval.

If the 246 front bushings are the same as the 308 & Mondial8/QV, then you can use the polyurethane bushings for the 308. The sleeves the 308 poly bushings come with are the same ID as the original 308 sleeves, so you can re-use the orig. sleeves. See the recent JWise 308 suspension thread, or my & birdman's earlier threads about how to leave the sleeves in place, press the rubber inside out, & press the polyurethane bushings in place.

I have Mike's (Superformance) bushings in my car. My mechanic was concerned they would be noisy, but they have performed to perfection, without a squeak.

Just compared the Superformance P/Ns for the 265 & the 308 front a-arm bushings. They list the same for both:
2885F Front suspension bushes (high quality rubber bonded) £12.50 Each

So I suspect that the same part is used for both. A check of the Ferrari.UK site will confirm this hypothesis. (Malcolm West, do you happen to be scanning & can confirm?)

If so, then you s/b able to use either the Superformance:
Front suspension bush (hard rubber for better handling) 2885FH £16.50

Or with the Energy Suspension Bushings 13.3101.G.

Pls confirm my hypothesis tho. While I know 308s pretty well, am just coming up to speed on the Dino.

The weld is only a couple of light tacks to hold alignment. Use a die grinder with a small cut-off tool to cut the old welds loose. The shop manual details how to align the bushings before welding. You want a rod going through both bores during welding. TIG is best for getting in and out without getting things hot enough to hurt rubber. Remember that someone will have to cut welds to replace your bushings so do not get too heavy handed with filler. Fit should be tight so a fusion weld should do.

    Good Luck,

    John
