Changing color on headliner??

Hello Fellas,
I already posted this on the 308 forum, but thought I would try here too. Two questions"

1) My red/black 308 has a off-white headliner which I hate! I wish it were all black. Rather than buy a black liner, I was thinking of dying it black....what do you think, and if you did this, what type of dye did you use?

2) My engine has that cloudy film (oxidation?) on it which I cannot remove with cleaners. Scrubbing with brushes works great, but is there a better way? The brushes can't get into all the little spaces. After the cleaning, I would like to put on a protective coating to keep engine shiny.
What are your thoughts on this?
