About to tackle my annual service. Pretty comfortable with everything except my WSM doesn't have the section E 2.01 that shows how to drain the power steering system. Anyone happen to have that section or any procedural tips?

Sounds like its as simple as disconnecting the hose on the steering rack to let the fluid drain (self-draining), then following the procedure on E 2.02 to refill.

    Thanks!

That is what the WSM shows and it has worked for me in the past. Maybe the pros here have some other suggestions. I also noted that it would be easier to drain from the tunnel under the car. AND the early cars were different than later cars under there so there may not be an easy place to drain. I seriously thought about modifying the fitting under there so it was easy to service but never did it.

Thanks. Do you have a copy of that section? That's the one I'm missing. FWIW, my 430 is a 06 Spider

Easy way on most cars is to jack up the front wheels and disconnect the return line to the power steering tank- extend the return hose to the back of the engine bay. Blank off the return fitting on the tank.
Connect the extended return pipe into a container , turn the steering and the return fluid will discharge into the container- top up the tank with new fluid so that it does not get too low and draw air in. Turn steering lock to lock and flush out the system fully.
Re connect the return pipe , top up the tank and turn lock to lock to expel any air, top up if needed.
Start engine and turn wheel, top up if needed.

I use a gravy sucker, pull out all I can get from the tank, refill and do it every year . Originally had to do it every couple of drives to get it to clear up. Now it seems to stay clean. Bad idea?

Your method will help but it only changes a small percentage, it only takes an hour to change it completely if you extend the return hose.
i have a rav4 and the power steering did not work at times when starting up, if i turned the engine off and restarted it worked fine. Garage wanted to fit new pump which is nonsense as it was obviously pumping most of the time.
After changing the fluid it just works fine , pump has some sort of delivery valve which must have been sticking with the old and dirty oil.

Not a bad idea, and how I service my 20 year old Lexus LS400. I would use this method for annual servicing, especially since you seem to have cleaned out all the old fluid early on. I would use mike32’s method for every other year servicing. Given that the vast majority of cars never have their PS fluid changed......

I've also used the return line hose for other cars, which is what I'll do without the WSM Section E 2.01.

DOES ANYONE HAVE Section E 2.01? I've seen it somewhere online, but can't find it again. I think it's just one page, if someone could provide it I'd really appreciate it!

    Thanks! M
