    Vik,

On my G - I do the oil change 2 times per year (since I don't drive 7500 miles) - with the synthetic that is all you need to honestly. Some will say really only one time per year with synthetics or about every 7500 miles which ever come first.

I do mine mid summer and mid winter regardless of miles. Costs me about 200 or so with the dealer.

The exception to this - would be if you are tracking the car.

I do check it about every other drive and top off as needed.

I use Mobil 1 5 - 40 to top it off - I assume the dealer use Agip. And it should not matter at all if you are using synthetic.

I would wonder if it really matters if you use 5 w 40 or - 0 - 30, etc. I always use 5w 40 since I have a case of it lying around but I don't know if would matter - since you are just topping off most likely less than a quart.

Pick your viscosity. The Zero weight oils are nice because they free up a couple of HP and most importantly get the engine lubricated faster on start up which as the ads do state is where most engine wear occurs.

As a personal observation I run Mobil 1 15w-50 in my car because it's a turbo. The prior owner had run Mobil 1 since new after the break-in period. I have 160,00 miles on the car and just replaced the original turbo due to excessive shaft play. Normally turbos will last about 100,000 miles as they can rotate at just above 100,000rpm under full boost at high RPM. I also completed the first valve adjustment as all the valves were within spec at the 120,00mile interval. Only three of the valves were out (just out) of spec and three others were close but with spec. I attribute that directly to the oil.

Also when I used to turn wrenches both our engine builders (Quicksilver FF1600 & FF2000, Bertels Formula Atlantic) told us to use Mobil 1.

    Just my .02

Judging from what i learn from Mercedes - Amsoil contains something that can kill catalyct converters. Why should they pay for repairs if you don't use the oil they demand (Mobil1 0w40) ?

I'd think a greater problem would be why your engine oil is in the cats??

I first changed the oil in my wife's Murcielago at 575 miles putting in 0W-30 Mobil 1. The used oil analyses were very good. I then changed to Red Line 5W-20 at 4,200 miles. The engine is more quiet and seems to run smoother, and with a little more power. I will wait a little longer before getting an analysis. I also used the 5W-20 Red Line in my Maybach.

I am using 5W-40 Shell Helix Ultra in my Enzo even though it calls for a 60 wt. oil. I am not racing the car on the track so the engine never gets hot. In fact I have not been able to get over 180 F oil sump temperature.

I may try the 5W-30 Red Line in there next.

If you are just driving around the US and not on a track a good 30 wt. oil will probably suffice. If you are racing for a weekend then change the oil beforehand to a 40 wt. oil., then back to a 30 wt. after the race.

I think no matter how good is the shape your engine in it will burn a little oil anyway - just a little bit. I guess stuff in Amsoil can kill cats. I don't care how real is that problem - i am going with Mobil1.
