Since so many people are going to a larger wheel size, I am wondering what the effect it has on the ground effects, braking, and cornering? In addition, if it is so good, why has Ferrari not done it?

To thoroughly answer that may take a book. You need to account for the tire, sidewall height, suspension, etc. BASICALLY, a smaller sidewall/larger rim means stiffer ride versus same suspension with smaller rim and larger tire sidewall.

Then we need to discuss the rotating mass of the tire and rim and how it influences the car's speed/handling.

Then we could also discuss the possible brake rotor size that fit under said rim...

Am sure there are MANY others here better versed at this than i am.

Lots of people mostly do it for aesthetic purposes. Not quite sure the effects it has on ground effects and cornering, but it does have a negative impact on braking. If the wheels are heavier than the ones they replace, they add rotational mass making it harder for the brakes to slow the car, fortunately most Ferrari owners switch to equal weight or lighter wheels which shouldn't or wouldn't effect the brakes ability to stop they may even work better. However when many people put larger wheels on (most non exotics don't have brakes as strong as Ferrari) they replace the brakes/rotors to compensate for the added weight.
