I wanted to ask fellow Chicagoland Ferrari owners if they have ever put together a charity event? I thought I would reach out to you guys to see if this was something you guys would be up for. Is there a certain someone (in the FOC or FCA) I should run this by before moving forward?

I would like to donate proceeds to the National Kidney Foundation if this gets off the ground.

    I'm open to your suggestions!
    Thanks!

No money being donated but an awesome and touching event. I went to last year's and the girls, ( Chelle and her sister I believe, ) did a stellar job and left participants and fans all happy and cheerful. If I am free, I am definitely going again if they will have me.

Andreas (Tifosi12 ) is the local Chicagoland FOC leader/F1 and model expert. If you not have met him already, you will find out he is a very friendly and responsive guy who will entertain any offers that promote Ferrari and making people welcome.

Thanks for the heads up RocketBoy!

Well,as the F.O.C. grows,we would like to start hosting Charitable Events to benefactor some Charities that Directly Affect some of Us,or people close to Us....For instance. The Diabetes Foundation, The American Heart Association,The Arthritis Foundation-(Me on that one), The Anti-Cruelty Society, and Childrens Charities. But,the Club needs to Grow,if we want to do that...

And,the FCA does a couple Charitable Events that benefit Childrens Memorial Hospital, which is a Great Thing.

And,I'd also like to add Prostate Cancer Awareness,As,most of here us are Men. And,they say that Prostate Cancer affects 1 in 3 Men. The Breast Cancer organizations do a great job promoting Breast Cancer Awareness, and benefits Cancer Research....But,you never hear anything about Prostate Cancer. Which is the No.1 Cancer Killer of Men,and kills just as many Men as Breast Cancer kills Women. So,I think that,as "Car Guys",that would also be a great Charity to also consider.

Funny you posted this, I was about to ask the same question. Every year, my high school, New Trier, raises money for Angola, a small country in Africa. We send supplies in a massive box and a group of people from school meet it there. They use the supplies to teach the people of different communities and build schools for them. I am vice president of the jr class and am expected to raise money to buy books this year for them. (They speak French, and in the past we have sent English books...) I also was wondering about how realistic it would be to arrange a show for an hour or so to raise money.

I would look at a few hours to be able to raise anything significant.

What are your thoughts on what you would do to raise money?

Paid entry to the show, pay for a ride or give a donation to enter the show?

I think the idea would be to pay for entry or have a suggested donation. I think it would probably be too much to ask for rides.

    Not really.

A few years back, the RROC did it. We gave rides in a parking lot for $5 a head; all proceeds going to charity.

I think it was at Old Orchard, and we did it in conjunction with another event we had going on.

I gave a lot of rides(3 people at a time. That was $15 each trip). So did others, but I don't know what the final take for charity was.

Skip, I'll give you a twenty if you give Frank and me a ride in your 308 at the same time!
    :)

Reminds me of the movie Charly's Angels, where they crammed the three girls into a 360 Spider. Yeah right.

With gas prices such a joke, a car that cost 30 bucks to fill last year now costs the driver $45. Want a nightmare ask me how much cash I dump filling up the Durango and H2 per month. I want to start investing in a oil field somewhere and squander my own samples.

    Heya Rocketboy :)
Thanx for the kind words ... just to clarify on the VA show - Haley is my best friend and roomie, but we're not related... She's the one who got the VA to go for having the show and did all the meetings and planning there (she works for the VA in admin, the show was on her own time like the pet therapy she does bringing the dogs to the wards)- I was more a supporting role and went to the area shows looking for potential attendees as well as helping with setup, teardown and miscellany. :)
and of course you are welcome this year!

I am doing my 2nd car show at the Va, lots of work and coordinating.

One thing I found is that you want to make sure people have snacks and drinks available, either free or for sale by vendors. Free cuts into profits, but for my show, everything is free, which is an attraction to many people. But for a fundraiser, think of getting things like old time popcorn makers, coffee, lemonade, bags of snacks...can get a nice small profit for the "cause".

Getting out early and passing out flyers at large events is a fast easy way to get people with cars interested in your show. I go to the "Classic McDonalds" in Gurnee Friday nights...it is cruise night Fridays. Also, a great one is Scoop the Loop in Waukegan. Hundreds of cars of all kinds go to that. That is a good place to get some.

For taking people for rides, you have to make sure you have people willing to do it, and also not have the coordinators scared of the idea. I am trying to do that for the VA show, but Community Affairs is very nervous about taking the Vets for a small ride because of liability reasons.

And like Skip said, you will need bit more than a few hours to raise a nice amout for the charity.

That is my thoughts, I am not sure what you were asking for in particular, but if you have other q's, ask me and I will let you know what I can. And I am all up for your event as long as the huge pile of parts at the shop ever finds its way back together! :)

Tanx Rocketboy! I was so scared last year, about anything that could go wrong, but now I am excited as can be! And as far as us having you there?...we would not have it any other way. :) You had the newest car at last year's show, wont be the newest this year, but definately one of the nicest!

    Hi Haley-

Of course I'll be at your event. Don't know yet what car I'll bring.

Had a phone message the other nite that was all garbled. It sounded like it might be your voice; was it you?

Could have been me but for my sake I hope it doesn't sound as if I have a girlie voice. I stopped working out because of my aching knees (hockey vet,) but I am still pretty tough.

I called to tell you my fiancee has been asking about "that hot guy who thinks he is all that and a bag of chips. "

It was definitely a girls voice in the message; said something about 'chili'. It had to be Haley.
