Charles Leclerc was "filming" today at Monaco with an SF90 Stradale. Elkann and Prince Albert were present.
Well The Prince not only allowed it, contrary to the original C'etait un rendez in Paris which was totally illegal (Mercedes with Ferrari 275GTB sound added during post production), was not only present...but guess who was riding with Charles part of the time?! https://www.nicematin.com/auto/video-charles-leclerc-filme-par-claude-lelouch-pour-une-course-de-vitesse-dans-les-rues-de-monaco-515103 Also see here in Charles Instagram two short sequences showing a lot more speed that the above https://www.instagram.com/stories/charles_leclerc/2316020597475338441/ https://www.instagram.com/stories/charles_leclerc/2316019779728816091/ No idea who was in the second car, Marc Gene perhaps. Can't wait to see the whole thing!
Here's some twitter pages with some pics and that have small vids of the ffilming. https://twitter.com/AuRupteur https://twitter.com/LeclercNews
For those who follow only F1 and don't know about this LEGENDARY 9 minute movie read up in Fchat just enter "rendez vous" in the search function and watch It has been discussed here countless times. Again this is 1976, Claude Lelouch himself -a major major film director- NOT in a Ferrari but in his Mercedes (6.9 or a big one anyway you can tell how it does not turn too well and runs out of brakes place de la Concorde) with Ferrari 275GTB engine sound added artificially in post production. And yes he did it wild with no permission. The world was different then, far less traffic, police had a far longer reaction time. Now don't try this in your home town with your recent Fiat'ari it would not end well. Here is the original 1970's video. YES it was done in early morning traffic in summer 1976, the video is NOT accelerated and filmed in one shot. If you want to look on a map of Paris he goes from place Dauphine up Avenue Foch, around the Arc de Triomphe, down the Champs Elysees, around the Place de la Concorde (oops no brakes!), along the quais de Seine (the Seine River side) to and through Le Louvres, up to Montmartre (oops garbage truck in the way) in front of the basilica to meet the lady https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%27%C3%A9tait_un_rendez-vous
Marc so Lelouche was the actual driver? I've heard Jarier and Laffite mentioned in the past. Do we know what 275 provided the soundtrack? Thanks.
I think this article has some proper information: https://www.granturismoevents.com/news-rendez-vouz-in-paris-movie-1976/, Lelouch had to be evasive for some time because the action was clearly illegal but he provided more details years later (in french: )
Can't really help you there, sorry. I have interviewed both Laffite and Jarier (on the 712P) so if I bump into them at Retromobile or some event I will ask...and my cousin did at least one movie with Lelouch but I hardly ever meet her. I have always thought the driving is a bit clumsy, not like a pro's...so I would bet he did it himself. Regarding Lelouch's 275GTB nothing comes up, maybe Marcel or someone else knows. Longer video here: https://sport24.lefigaro.fr/scan-sport/actualites/charles-leclerc-fonce-dans-les-rues-de-monaco-desertes-pour-un-court-metrage-de-claude-lelouch-1002748
PS: Just for the record this article mentions that the original Rendez vous film was shot on August 15, 1976 (at 5.30am), first time I see an actual date mentioned and yes that was a Sunday. FYI August in Paris is traditionally very quiet as many Parisians are at the coast or countryside for holidays. https://www.lepoint.fr/automobile/sports-et-reves/lelouch-tourne-a-monaco-un-remake-de-sa-traversee-de-paris-25-05-2020-2376758_658.php
Saw Leclerc video, not impressed with the sound of that car at all. And lots of tire squeal is all I really heard. maybe an oboard would be better . Or perhaps it should have been done in an F50...
