Does anyone have a chauffeur that comes to your house and drives you around in your own car? I don't need to be driven around in a limo, just thinking it would be nice to have this kind of service when going into NYC so you don't have to worry about parking, garages etc etc..? It has to be cheaper than getting a chauffeur and limo.

There are car services available and they work pretty well from my experiences. I was in D.C for an extended business trip many years ago and used one of the local limo services. I told them when and where and they ran me around in a town car(regular, not a limo). It wasn't cheap, but it was better than renting a car, fiddling with a map or shuffling for a space on the metro, let alone trying to find a space to park. I would do it again in a second. I'd suggest calling a few of the local limo services and seeing what kind of shuttles they have available.

Another good bet is to ask a concierge at a hotel. They can usually hook you up with good car and driver.

All my family have "drivers" as they call them in Bangladesh. Over there if you have a car, first thing you do is hire a "driver." I had seen nothing like it till I went back last December. It is pretty interesting seeing drivers drive the owners in 1978 POS corollas and 1984 civics.

I guess drivers are not only for the rich. Then again in these countries having a old corolla does set you apart from the poor.

    Pretty cool service. :)

I use a private driver whenever I'm in an unfamilliar city. (outside the US) otherwise I use a cab. In NY consider Air Taxi to get you in and out quickly and from the dropoff point you can drive. It may be expensive but you may benefit by sharing the commute with people like the Donald or get a few stock tips from Martha. (Yeah right)

Probably depends on country, but in Asia it seems to be about $4K-$5K a month, their money. In these cases that I saw, lodging is not provided. Car obviously is, and they work 8am-7pm. Lunch is provided.

    US$1=60$ theirs.

Yea my 2 feet and a pair of comfy shoes. Why would you need sombody to drive you around? I really never understood the reason for it. Unless if course you have a disability that keeps you from driving.

Can sombody explain this to me?

It's much better to hire a car a driver for cities like New York, Paris, London. The parking is simply impossible. It's no more expensive than taxis and you get door to door service and a big clean comfy car.

Now for driving cities like LA, no need just as easy to drive yourself.

For countries like India hire a driver, you would have to be nuts to drive over there! I was there for a month still generally closed my eyes much of the time in the car. That being said I love driving in Italy, it's a giant race track with large city obstacles..

On of my good friends in college was Bagali(Ithink that is how you say it). Funny, I have only known 1 person from Bangaldesh, now 2. The last time I heard it was in pretty poor shape. Is that still true.

I think the correct way would be "Bengali" or another popular one is "Bangali." I read you went to Houston, my uncle actually did too. He graduated as a mechanical engineer. I am gonna go visit him end of May, he just finished his MBA. If you are local, would love to grab lunch. No go on book yet BTW. Yes the country is in poor shape, however now there is more of a gap between rich and poor. Most of the people in the country can't eat or have clothes, and then in front of clubs you can see Range Rover HSE, Benz S500 and Jaguars parked. Some people have plasma TV, and vacation in England, Los Angeles, and Singapore, other people eat rice mixed with cold water.

Crazy place. I don't have a digital camera, otherwise I would have taken pics to tell you. I think we were ranked #1 by Amnesty International for beingthe most corrupt country in the world. I think we finally beat out Nigeria and Haiti. It is crazy. A person comes to collect the electric bill from my grandmother. It was $6K their money. Well its the same every month. In the summer her bills went up, and she had to give the guy $2K so that he would "turn" the meter to keep her bill steady. Anyways said guy got transferred, and my GMA got a bill for 36K. Looks like he didn't pay her bills for a few months. They do everything by hand, so when she went to the electric company, she had to pay $4K to another guy so he would forge the books and showed she paid. I could go on and on.

*sorry for changing the tide of the thread* Back to your regular programming now.

BTW Alan, people from Bangladesh are VERY different from those Middle easterners at UT Houston ;)

Wild story. Tell me when you are in Houston and i will see if i can be there. I live in Dallas, so we'll see. I cannot believe that ook has not gotten there. That really pisses me off. I mad sure to write it down exactly as you wrote it. I'll just wait a week or so for it to come back. It should if it does not reach a valid destination. I put some pics of our last Italian Festival in there too. i will be pissed if they lose all that. I do agree about the bengali, the ones i met were great people.

I was employed by the Flemish Government and drove the director-general
So no lodging was provided, sometimes very long days, and the paycheck wasn't good. But i loved the job.
Through this job my interests in politics grew and now i'm studying Political Science for 2 years allready here at the university of Brussels.
My boss did encourage me to do these studies after she saw i was seriously motivated.
