....thinks he has a carbed car from reading the description. http://tallahassee.craigslist.org/cto/1509510372.html
Its a shame, because if he took it to someone that knows the cars, they might be able to resolve the issues fairly easily. I assume his mechanic told him about the "carbs".

It makes me sad to see them in this condition. It needs a lot of love. All the common failure areas, electrical, interior, rust/paint. This car needs a total rehab. But at that price.....

For the purchase price plus proper paint work and proper interior a person could be in one that wasn't neglected. I'd still take it home and park it next to mine if I had the time/money/space. But I'm a sucker and want them all.

I dont think the owner knows much about that car. Looking at the pic and becasue it is a QV , the car has fuel injection not carbs.

but it could be a wild restomod.

Somebody should buy it just for the fun of it.

I bought my 328 for a low price simply because I enjoy the restoration more than the driving.

Since it's a Ferrari, I have to be very creative as well when it comes to purchasing/manufacturing parts and stuff. I could just spend a lot of money on parts, but I don't like to.

    havin' loads of fun...

That is the point of my first post. The car is obviously not carbed and the owner thinks it is. He knows nothing about the car and probably has a mechanic who has quoted him $$$$ just to get it running, when it may be something quite simple.

I agree, that would be the way to handle it. And probably a great car for that direction. It's really cheap. I hope it goes to someone who can fix it.

Lots of surface rust in the engine compartment.. I bet there's a lot more where that came from. This car has been totally neglected. Just look at the Ferrari script on the trunk lid. It's loose!!!! Even if the peg was broken, just a little bit of double stick tape would hold it down. I bet this guy spent more time typing up the listing than he did on the car.

Having said all that... I kinda want it. I need a winter/summer/winter project.

Go buy it, this car has the makings of a thread of the year as you pull it apart and it turns into a nightmare or you drive it daily while fixing all the little stuff. But, yeah, the paint and interior will likely double the price. I want it too.

Most likely a nightmare. Worst case scenario is I can use the motor as a spare turbo upgrade for my 308.

I can't imagine reading the PPI on that thing... War and Peace would be light reading compared to it.

Only accepts cash? So if I show up with a check from Woodside Credit you'll turn me away?! Okay pal, you just weeded out a bunch of potential customers. This guy is a winner.

I wonder if that Mondial has had a deep-water problem, i.e. engine rust & electrical problems?

this ferrari was posted on ebay early in the spring and never reached $12k. Originally from around panama city florida. don't know if the guy moved or someone is trying to make a quick buck. the interior is shot, like someone took a knife to it, said it needed a complete restore--major understatement. isn't worth $10k, not even for parts.

Now I really want to go look at it our of morbid curiousity. I have a week off work, maybe I'll take my Mondial out there on a road trip if the weather is going to be nice. Only about 700 miles each way.

My brother who lives in Sac sent me this one. I thought there was talk here about this one running hot and having other issues I don't recall, maybe a poor respray? Or it may have been a different one. I wish I had a warehouse I could fill with these cars. But if I'm going to start a fantasy I'll also have a road course in my backyard and I'll race all these $10K F-cars with my buddies, and maybe this will all take place in southern France on my family vineyard. Next door to Brad and Angie. Brad will join in on the festivities when we fire them all up.

You are correct on both accounts. I saw the car in person and couldn't find a single thing that didn't need help. I will say that I didn't see any metal flecks in the oil and the coolant smelled sweetly. The engine might still be good...

Well I guess it just depends on how much the purchaser knows and pays for... a local FCA member here keeps himself and us all amused with the reciepts that came with his 308QVi for rebuilding the carbs! Curiously, I actually have a friend (we worked together in Hong Kong) who retired to Thomasville, GA and I was under the impression that it was "Hooterville" reincarnated!

Yep, that's how my 1981 Euro Mondial-8 car looked when I got it,,,, for 7k.
But mine is a really rust free, California car.

Poop,,, that 1983 $ 13,000 Mondi QV is way too beat up.
7k or Run away,,, maybe parts only car.

Ok, I am the guilty party. It is my car that was listed. Yeah, I know I am mechanically challenged and don't know anything about cars. You can read some of my other posts asking for advice on how to fix it to get a feel for just how mechanically incompetent I am. The reason I thought it was a carb issue is because the mechanic I described the problem to told me the reason it stalls when it idled after you first crank but then runs fine once it is warm is because the carbs needed adjusting. So I passed the info along. Turned out he was wrong, and I am an idiot. Point taken.

I bought the car earlier this year planning to pay a real mechanic to fix it up, then get the body and interior done. Two weeks after I bought it though, my wife filed for divorce. Now I have child support, alimony, an extra house payment, and $0 to spend on toys. I haven't even been able to take it to a real mechanic. The only thing I had done was to get the alternator checked to see why the battery wasn't charging, and that was in those first two weeks after I bought it before the divorce. Otherwise, I haven't touched it, and still don't know why the battery won't charge. When the battery is charged up, it actually seems to run well and is lots of fun to drive. So I am glad no one bought it to just use it for parts.

As far as some of the other comments from other posters go:

    1. Yes, I bought it off ebay about 9 months ago. Late march of 2009. He was wrong about the sale price though. I won the bidding at 12.5k for it, plus I paid 7% sales taxes on the title and had the alternator tested, which puts me at almost exactly the 13.5k I was asking for it. So no, I wasn't trying to make a quick buck off it, just sell it for what I had in it to someone who has the cash and /or expertise to fix it up. Judging from the fact the highest offer from craigslist was under 10k and some of the speculation here, it must not be worth that. I will bear that in mind, and if I decide to relist it, it would probably be at a significantly lower price, and I'd just have to eat the loss and chalk it up as a learning experience. To be honest though, for the 6k or 8k or 9k I've been offered so far , I'll probably leave it sitting in the garage until I can figure out some way to afford to fix the body and interior, and in the mean time try to muddle my way through fixing the battery charging problem myself. See my other posts describing the charging problem. I could certainly use some advice on how to fix it.

    2. Yes, Thomasville GA is officially known as "Hicksville" by young and old alike. I actually live in another town now in an apartment, which has no garage to work in on the car. The car itself is sitting at my old house in Thomasville. To go by and work on it involves interacting with my ex-wife, which is why I have only opened the garage and seen the car exactly two times in the last nine months. Both times very briefly... because she gets grouchy when I am nearby. Another great reason to sell it rather than fix it is that I would't have to hear her complain about it sitting in her garage anymore. I am hoping to have enough money to get it hauled to my new place and put in a storage place where I can work on it at some point. I hate going by over there.

    3. Sorry if I offended anyone, but there is NO WAY I would take a personal check from someone I don't know, no matter what bank it is written on. If that means I don't sell it, then I don't sell it. I sold an antique musket once to a guy in Oregon who wrote me a check for $1500. I shipped it. The check bounced. I never did get my money or my musket back, and I don't want to repeat that mistake.

At the moment, I have a ferrari and an escalade and neither of them run. Owning two luxury vehicles and then having to take a cab to work is very frustrating. It makes me want to sell them both and go buy a Honda with a warranty.
