Im looking into buying about a 4 acre piece if not more of land out west for as cheap as possable. I have no plans for it yet maybe just drive out and go camping on it every now and again. Does anyone know of a website I could use to find this or any tips?

(sorry, I just had to say it)

Seriously, here is what I was doing:

    EBay.

No - not to buy land off Ebay, but you can get descriptions of land, locations, counties, other information, THEN you go to google armed with that info: 'real estate scott county arizona' or something like that.

Unfortunately, exposure means that it may be worth more money. If you want cheap, you need to drive and look for that FSBO sign written on a white cardboard with a magic marker...

Either this, or you look up foreclosed land. The best deals are those that are not listed as for sale.

I have a friend who built his first home, on property which backs up to a greenbelt, purchased for $20.

In south or west Texas you can find $500 acres easy. But you're going to have to buy 1,000+ acres. People don't like to sell small plots of land under 500 acres, because then you have "neighbors" all around you, and everyone putting up fences or going on each other's property to hunt, etc. It becomes a big mess with everyone fighting with each other. My friend has a few thousand acres in south Texas. He has a "small" neighbor with like 500. He's always catching the guy hunting on his property, and they are always fighting. That's why if you have a big ranch, you want "big" neighbors too. You don't want someone buying a 10 acre lot next to your 10,000 acre ranch and then helping himself to hunt on your property when he feels like it because he knows you will probably not notice or get caught.

In Mexico you can buy land for about $75 an acre. But you have to buy 20,000+ acres.

I dont have the money for that perhaps for 6 acres in texas or a ton more in Mexico. I dont hunt so that wouldnt be a problem. If your friend is looking to ever sell a small peice of his land throw me a pm.

Maybe you should look into a lease. You can lease a few hundred acres pretty cheap in your price range on an annual basis. A lot of people that own big ranches lease out a lot of the land hunters and such to cover the taxes. That's what my friend does with most of his property.
