    Dear 456 Friends,

yesterday I drove my 456 GT (european car), suddenly the „Check Engine 1-6“ warning light started blinking. It had full horse power, driving felt quite good.

After a two hour break, I drove again and the warning light was not blinking any more.

Accidental, I noticed that the exhaust temperatue (motor was running in idle mode) on the driver‘s side muffler is quite hot (when you put your hand in front of he muffler, you have to move it away after 2 seconds to avoid burns). On the passenger's side muffler, the temperatue is like a hairdryer.

Background: the car got new catalysts on both side 2000 KM ago, because the passenger's side catalyst was broken (burned out inside).

Is the different muffler temperatue regular? Or is it an indication that there’s something wrong with the engine?

    Best regards form Munich,
    Christian

My first reaction is to blame it on an intermittently faulty Catalyst Temp ECU for the 1-6 cylinder bank (this thing: https://www.ricambiamerica.com/179278-catalyst-temp-ecu.html).

Ricambi America used to have a replacement ECU by Gothspeed at a much reduced price vs. the OEM part, but it seems to have been removed.

In any case, lots has been written about this issue in FChat and elsewhere and I strongly encourage you to search this forum for additional information.

There should not be such a drastic difference in the exhaust temperatures. It sounds like the engine is only running on 6 cylinders, and the side that is cold is not running, just pumping air through it. You should notice that it is very low on power if this is the case.
