    Hey boys:

My check engine light came on yesterday and I saw from previous postings this is often from the gas cap not being tightened properly. I checked and the gas cap was not returned correctly. Now that the problem has been corrected (hopefully), I was wondering how long it would take for the check engine to come off.

Anything, the mechanically challenged could do to expedite this fix?

    Thanks.

    Ken

Drive cycle. Get in the car and go for a drive of about 30 minutes at some nice normal highway speeds. Then, stop and park for a while. Then drive home. That should do the trick! Don't forget to pack some good driving music and an icy cold Diet Coke :)

Turn the main power off (essentially disconnects the battery) located in the trunk to reset the ECM. If the problem was solved by the gas cap being tightened the light should go off.

Stop by any pep boys, autozone etc and use one of their loaner OBDII code reader and clear the code. While you are at it you can check for additional codes.
