Has anyone beside me had an intermittent "check engine light"/return to dealer come up? My 9/15/23 296 GTB delivery has had this problem since week one. The boys in service at my dealership have been great but I am going on 9 weeks and still not fixed. Initially they told me if/when it comes on to not shut the car off and drive it straight to the dealer; of which I did. Then they found a code that could only be unlocked by FNA or Italy. When they understood the code they gave instructions to our technician to start to investigate many values and components in the emission system. He is plugging along but it is a frustrating slow process. Does any of this ring a bell from any other new 296 owner in North America? Or in any other country? Any information is greatly appreciated. That’s disappointing … I had “catalyst hot, slow down” initially and then with “check engine light” … drove it 60 miles and no issues… dealership plugged it and just reset codes and told me to just monitor it?’nb and hasn’t come back… problem we face with these cars is the local dealers even here in UK don’t have the expertise to find and fix faults so all they do is send data to Italy and wait (sometimes a week or more!) for them to diagnose it…. I have a intermittent fault with the front boot not opening via remote or push button on door (so use the emergency pull cord) . Not a big deal but again they had to send the data to Italy to diagnose it as a faulty Control Unit which took over a week (not something simple like a stiff lock I had hoped) and then ship a new one from Italy which over a month later still waiting to arrive. these cars have way too much unnecessary electronics just waiting to go wrong and we are the test drivers. Shame as the driving experience and performance is incredible.
One thing I read with the regard to emissions issue is the engine is running rich due to faulty/ stuck inlet valve (from new?) to sensor causing higher temperatures in the catalytic converter to be higher and then engine flag the warning to protect itself. Not sure if I read it in relation to another model eg SF90?
Thank you for the feedback. After 10 weeks, they finally got it fixed. Long story and I have to catch a flight. Will go in to details in a few days. From a cloud view, I was extremely disappointing in the first few weeks but eventually we got to a good place and found the defective part causing the problem. But it took a lot of input from the factory. They did not bail on me or the dealership. JL
Hello all, Catching back up on my check engine light details in this post. Turns out that it was a bent stainless steel flap on the end of a (formed) rubber emission pipe. Apparently it wasn't seating properly which in turn caused a faulty reading back to the emission system. It appeared to be a "vendor supplied" component. It took a while to narrow it down to this particular part. All prior attempts in troubleshooting took us down a rabbit-hole. (10 weeks). They found 2-3 other 296 gtbs with the same phantom check engine light issue and the factory was great with sharing information which ultimately lead to a solution. The factory was VERY supportive (as well as FNA) to the service technician at our dealership. 3 weeks in my possession and 10 weeks at the dealership. You can imagine how frustrating this was. But, I suspect if it was a Mercedes or Ford or Chevy or Audi you would never get this kind of overseas support. I am grateful for the incredible effort and perseverance by our dealership's technician and direct communication from the factory support team in Italy. Emission, emission, emission systems....Bring back the '60s when you could take out your PCV valve and blow it out or bang it on the ground and pop it back in.... But seriously, should any of you folks get a check engine light with a code that only Italy can unlock,,,,,don't panic. They now have this documented and a quick fix if it happens again. I suspect they will do their due diligence and trace the batch of parts where my defective component came from and maybe send out a service ebullition (not a recall). sh*t happens on a new model but they did not walk away...... Many thanks to Ferrari of Naples throughout this frustration ordeal. JL JL Image Unavailable, Please Login
