    Hello,

Yesterday I installed a new 'bazooka tube (amplified subwoofer tube)' into my 2002 F360.

While running tests on the new speakers last night, I ran my battery down to the point that I could not start my car.

I turned off my battery switch (under the hood) and plugged the car into the trickle charger overnight.

Today, the battery showed 100% charge, so I tried to start the car again. The car started, however the check engine light is now on, and the car will not rev over 1500rpm!!!

Any thoughts as to what may be causing this problem?

    I appreciate any help!

I am not a mech at all but this is what I would do to find out:

    1) Hook up an OBDII to see if you have any codes? if yes, what is the code? if no, step 2

    2) Turn off the batt switch for 1/2 hr and then turn it back on. Idle the car for 15 mins - does this help?

    3) Last, I would buy a new batt and repeat step 2. Maybe, your current batt is not as "healthy" as you think anymore?

    JMO - best of luck.

Many other folks here are much better at this than I am.

Thanks for your advise...I'll buy an OBDII in the morning and give this a try.

I suspect that the failure to start and/or the draining the battery may have triggered some emission error in the computer...

Check on here for the proper ferrari procedure when re-connecting battery power...the procedure is in this section somewhere. Something like killing the battery power for a while to clear everything, then turning the key to the on position for a few minutes, then starting and letting idle, then driving at some constant speed without high RPM/acceleration for a period of time and a couple of other things. I know it sounds weird, but it has something to do with the computers re-learning their parameters.

It's worth a shot since you mentioned the power was dead.

(for some comedic releif during your crisis: my guess is this is the car's way of protesting you ripping up the interor to put some boom system in when you should be listening to the music of the motor, but that's just a guess ;) )

Thanks for your advice...it turns out that my mass airflow sensor failed (un related to the stereo upgrade)

$1500 later and it's all good again. :)

Same thing happened to me last year- needed a new MAF. There are a couple of threads on here discussing the cost of the MAF (rediculously high relative to MAFs for "normal" cars that also use Bosch parts), why the MAF's fail so frequently (I never heard an answer but my guess is the heat in the area they operated combined and/or some people putting in K&N or other aftermarket filters that deposit an oil film on the MAF sensor- I would only use the regular paper air filters).

My CEL came back on just before I put the car away for the winter, and I'm guessing it may be the other MAF since if one went just last year, well they are both operating in the same conditions....I'll have my mechanic check it out in the spring.

How did you find out that it was the MAF? What code did you get?

    Just for my learning

    Thanks

Tung- in my case it was some emission efficency code on my generic code reader...I think it was something like "fuel trim" or something on my mechanic's ferrari reader, BUT my mechanic still had to go through a bunch of steps before making the call to change out one of my MAF sensors- he checked a lot of the connections in the spark plugs and fuel injectors (he wound up tightening a couple of connectors and cleaning some others). He then moved onto the step of replacing the MAF which did the trick.

Different mechanics approach things differently, but I'm not sure that you can just go by a code to determine what is causing the CEL.

The cynic in me thinks some (not all!!) mechanics at the dealerships may just start replacing stuff and perhaps some of the cats that have been changed at dealers were never the cause of the CEL but were thrown in with the kitchen sink (not on many, but a couple of 360's I've seen repair bills that would make your eyes water- new MAFs, and seals, and cats- what are the odds all those things went on a given car at once?). Anyway, not sure this helps you any..
