Ok, so I took my new CS out for a short drive last night and the Check Engine Light came on. The car has straight pipes (no cats) and the Tubi NGT exhaust. I checked the gas cap and it's on tight. Is the CEL common with the exhaust set-up I have? If so, will the CEL go out by itself??? If the CEL is on because of the exhaust set-up, will driving the car with the CEL "on" damage anything? Any other help is appreciated!!! Thanks!!
Try switching your battery isolator off for 10 minuites. This will enable the electronics to reset. The electronics may just need resetting. If the CEL remains on, have the car checked.
If you pulled the cats, the check engine light will come on. That's what it's there for, to let you know something is amiss with the emissions system. OBDII cars have 2 oxygen sensors per bank, one before the cat and one after the cat. When both O2 sensors read the same (because of a lack of a cat), the check engine light illuminates. You can reset the ECU all you want. Without correcting the situation, the diagnostics will illuminate the check engine light within 200-300 miles (sometimes less) depending on driving conditions. If you want that awesome sound, you're gonna have to put up with the light, I'm afraid. HTH pino
The Check Engine Light will stay on even if you screw that gas cap back on tight. At least this is what the dealer told me. So you have to go to the dealer no matter what. But at least if it is something minor, you can wait while they plug all their stuff in and reset the thing...took about 15 mins to deal with my loose gas cap/ CEL
All is well. I took the car to Shelton this morning, they plugged it into the SDII computer and confirmed the CEL is "on" b/c of the lack of cats. They indicated that it is nothing to worry about. Rock on.......
