I have a 2002 360 coupe that I recently purchased. The check engine light comes on after a few hours of driving. I have a scan tool and it says there is a slight leak in the evaporative fuel system. Is there a common place to look? I have checked the gasket under the gas cap and it appears okay. I thought there may be a common problem.

    Thanks,

You should have a charcoal canister somewere in the engine bay. It could have a line that has come loose, or is pinched. However, if you car is still under warranty I would take it to the dealer and let them do it on their dime. If you start to mess with stuff that is still under warranty it will give the dealer an excuse to void it. So you don't want to give the dealer any amo, especially a Ferrari dealer. The evaporative system is part of the emissions system. I don't know were you are located, but I think under California law the emissions system is covered for 8 years. I don't know what it is in other places, but I think it could be about the same. So take it to the dealer and let them fool with it.

Thanks for the help. The car came out of warranty in March but I will check into the emissions system warranty. I am in Southern California and I do remember something about the warranty on emissions being longer. I thought it was just the cats but I hope you are right.

In Ca you have 7-70 emis. warranty but it is limited to certain components.

In the 360's we had lots of evap leakage errors. It was almost always one of the spigots in the top of the fuel tanks. Upon installation the rubber seals would distort and eventually a leak would be detected.

Also we found lots of the cars in the first couple of years were delivered with vented fuel caps.

Thanks Brian. I will take a look at those two possibilities but I don't think it is a vented cap.
