Hi all, Just taken delivery of a '97 355 Spider. Had the engine out service done less than 1,000 miles ago and over $ 50K in receipts over the past 12 months. A lovely car and a great addition to the stable Wonderful car to drive but 50 milers into a shakedown drive, check engine light comes on. I am about 100 miles from Ferrari of Washington, DC. Anybody know someone close to Charlottesville, VA who has the necessary diagnostic tool to determine the fault code. Really appreciate everyones help. I am thinking something minor which can be handled easily. All the best, jon e
If you feel you can do this.......Purchase an OBD2 reader, connect to connector under driver side dash, start Ferrari, obtain and write down the code(s). The standard OBD2 description may differ from actual Ferrari description. Use the attached file to decode. It helped me to fix my friends 96 and 99 355 issues. 355 and 360 have same codes.
Hi Jon, Congratulations on your 355! They are wonderful cars and the last of the true drivers analog Ferrari. In regards to the code, you should be able to use any OBDII reader to pull generic codes which should help you narrow it down. Otherwise you will need a SD tool from Ferrari for the Ferrari specific codes. I'd start with the generic codes first and post them in the F355 section. Most of the 355 people go there and not this section for diagnostic work.
Wow, receipts for $50k in the last 12 months …. and it still throws CEL? Read the code(s), post them, and someone here will have a real good idea.
I've been told that some 355 and 360 codes are different. The Workshop Manual has a somewhat brief, but accurate code list. That linked list is somewhat illegible. The text recognition program used to create it did a very poor job. You may need the folks on the 348/355 to translate. e.g.
As Richard says, an OBD2 reader is a good investment for Ferrari F355 owners. Many are less than $100. BlueDriver seems to be recommended by many https://www.bluedriver.com/products/bluedriver-scan-tool Although there is no Ferrari-specific software for many of these lower end readers, you can select other cars (e.g. AUDI) and it will at least give you the fault code, which may need Ferrari-specific translation. You can't always go by the fault description given by the reader. Proper Ferrari diagnostic tools are usually many thousands of dollars.
This should be better copy of OBD2 codes for 355 / 360. I have an electronic copy of the original Xeroxed version.
Really appreciate this information and have ordered one already !! Love the car and will get to the bottom of this hopefully quickly. Best, jon
would love to have the error code electronically sent to [email protected] really appreciate all your help here
Mitchell, Appreciate your advice. have ordered the reader and will report back once I am able to record fault codes. best, jon
