84 GTS QV. I recently had some suspension work done. Somehow the retaining clip on the LF tie rod end failed or was improperly installed and the nut worked itself loose. Fortunately it failed just as I was about to drive off rather that driving on the road.

Not only that but upon first installation it should have been tightened enough to firmly set the taper so it cannot become disconnected even if the nut has been removed.

That is so 100% true As I remember, even after the nut is off, I still have to use the ball joint separator and even with that, it still require quite a bit of force.

Not somehow. It did not magically come undone. It was improperly installed. Do you know who did it. It could have caused an accident.

One thing I know is I have a guardian angel that's for sure. I had the work done back in July (replace all suspension bushings). Drove the car all over Monterey for Car Week. Came back and did one or two cars and coffees plus another event at the end of September, which was when the problem occurred--just as I was about to leave the event.
