Quick questions on this 308 I looked at last week: The front bumper is coming from a euro car (apparently red before). Is it normal that the front grille is not bolted on the top of the 3 center vertical pieces (bolted on the others)? Image Unavailable, Please Login The car is supposed to be 20kmiles always kept in a garage in CA. Opinion? Image Unavailable, Please Login The front storage space seems to have seen better days. Odd for a garage kept car in CA? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Thanks!
Mileage or storage story seems a bit off. Example, my air filter box looks much better than that, and my car has 39k miles on it.
where in California? Anywhere where moisture is present you will have rust. Did it Live near the ocean? that can cause all kinds of rust. So just because its in a garage in California doesn't mean it should look good. If that garage was damp for any reason you can see this. Its old and very possible it spent some time stored outdoors. But so what, if the price is right then go for it. If the aluminum has white corrosion on it I am not supprized, If things like the air cleaner have rust on it, that is from water sitting on it either condensation formed and it ended up there or washing it, sitting in rain. Also the spoiler in the front, either usa or euro as well as the rear lower wheel wells are fiberglass, they are all painted orange at the factory then they get the color coat over that. So that is a factory euro spoiler, the orange is just the primer. Did you run your hand over the paint? Was it smoth or did it feel bumpy? If it was bumpy the paint is really dirty most likely from being out doors in weather. All fixable. But if you pass let me know on it, I might buy another 308 that needs some work.
Sly I think these are minor concerns If generally speaking she looks good Drives well and has some up to date records I wouldn't worry about the cosmetic stuff
The grill is correct however the radiator looks to have some rust I'd be concerned that the tubes inside are corroded - $500 fix but make sure you test it when you buy it it can be a source of frustration with high temps
What year? That looks from the pics kind of rough. Plenum is painted in gloss black. Should be flat black if 81 or 82 or bare if 80. Airbox as noted and in particular the cad plated items on the fuel injection look very rough for a car stored and used as described. Front spoiler red spots may just be underlying glass showing through from rock chips rather than red resprayed black. The black paint looks rough on there too. Grill attachments looks correct for fasteners shown. I would say what's the rest of the story for this 20k mile always garage stored example?
Often times, the engine compartment is improperly cleaned with abrasive or harsh chemicals. My impression from these photos is that's what happened with this one. Still, without iron clad service, registration, inspection, and other corroborating documentation, I wouldn't believe the odometers on any of these cars.
Everything you've talked about is cosmetic and cheap. Did you do a leakdown or compression test? Does it blow blue or white smoke? When was the last major service? Ask the money questions.
Engine hatch appears to be missing the trim strips and the drip guard off the engine side of the hatch. These finish out the edges of the mesh grill and protect the distributor/coil from dripping water. This is a US car correct? I don't see anything that would put me off if the price is right and you are looking for more of a project.
Thanks for all the feedback guys! I am trying to get some clarifications from the seller. I will update. Thanks! S
