Ah yes, the McLaren. Still one of my favourites. It stirs a different part of me, however. The engineers who designed and built the McLaren had different goals, obviously, than the team that worked on the Veyron.

Here's the McLaren. I still like the lines after all these years.

We were looking for the magical "top speed mode" key hole ;).

That, or we were trying to see if we could hotwire it...

I think kidnapping Rich would prove more lucrative - dibs on the Mclaren!

Good seeing you guys, sorry we couldn't stay for dinner.

I'm with Sameer - cool but didn't get me going. Made the McLaren look a tad bit dated but, that being said, I couldn't muster up the respect that I eventually attributed to the big Macca. Then again, my opinion is pretty worthless since I'm not in a position to buy either.

I thought the McLaren was great until I read the test in Car and Driver where, on an 80 degree F day, they had to stop the car every 20 minutes because it was constantly overheating. No thanks.
And, not to sound overly picky, but can you imagine when the sun bounces off of that machined finished center console plate in the Veyron? BLINDING!

Just went and saw it, another ferrarichat guy was there. Does anyone know if this is the same one jeremy clarkson tested with? Its the same color and interior. Plus it had some damage on the rims and the drivers seat was slightly worn.

It was a Road & Track article that you are recalling, specifically from December 1997 and the temperatures in Arizona where they were driving the car were much higher than 80 degrees. To quote:

"We had the misfortune of testing the car at a time when the temperature in Phoenix was hovering around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and the McLaren was not happy."

That particular F1 from the article (#042) was not fitted with the updated radiators that McLaren developed for cars in warmer climates, hence the problems. They also complain in the article that the A/C in the car was not up to task, but there is an upgrade for that which the car they were testing did not have either.

It should be noted for any potention buyers, that the yellow F1 (#014) in the SVAG showroom also doesn't have those upgrades.

"Time and tide wait for no man." I'd like to add, "Neither does this particular Bugatti Veyron." --because it'll be out of the showroom early tomorrow morning...
