Yes, I have also had the thought of looking for a 308 with a blown motor and putting a small block chevy into it. These are great handling cars, but after driving many Corvettes with 2 to 3 times the Horsepower of my 308. Would occassionally like more power out of my 25 year old car.

What originally gave me the inkling to do something like that. Is this guy out in the Nothwestern 'Burbs of Chicago that they call "V8 Archie". He has very successfully, stuffed Chevy Small block motors, with variant ranges of power, into Pontiac Fiero's for many years now. AND utilizing the stock Fiero Transaxle, without blowing one up. I've seen Video's of some of his Cars, smoking the rear tires. And, he says that the stock Fiero transaxle is strong enough to handle the power. Automatic or Stick. But, if you do a Stick, you do need to put in a better clutch if it's a High Performance engine. He's done over 100 of these, and also offers an adapter kit and instructions to do it yourself at home.

So, thought, "hey, wouldn't it be better to do it in a 308 instead of a Fiero". So, maybe someday, when I have the time and space to do it.

But, I don't know. After seeing that 12 cylinder Ferrari engine stuffed into one.....:)

Yeah, good guess. How long have you been driving it that way and do you track it?

It's hard to carry something you never had in the first place. With all the later (more powerful) cars out on the tracks these days these things are slugs by comparison. That doesn't mean they aren't fun but your arm does get tired from all the point by's ... Right Paul? ;)

I had a smaller supercharger on for 3 years and the large one has been on for 2. Now it's getting some head work....I'm hoping to see 550-600rwhp when it rolls back out.

I don't track it....I'm scared of guard rails.

If you stare at them then you will meet up with them.

The track has a way of exercising a car pretty well if driven at full tilt.

I have had the pleasure of riding in an "Archie" Fiero (belonged to the cameraman when I was in a "Motorsports Unlimited" show on microcars...) The application looked dead stock (to anyone that didn't know that Pontiac didn't use an injected LT4 engine in a Fiero) and used the standard Getrag 5sp trans. First gear was essentially useless, the car would light up the tires at pretty much any speed in 2-4, and the owner said he's been warned not to "jump on it" in 5th.

    It was a stunning ride...

I roadraced motorcycles for 5 season and found myself becoming intimately familiar with a tire wall or section of pavement at least once a season. I’d prefer the Ferrari not meet any guard rails.

Also it’s my opinion that race tracks are for race cars and my car is a street car. It has no roll cage, no 5 point harnesses, no fire suppression system, no fuel cell, no power shut down, …..it’s really only safe to 65 mph or so in a crash and IMO doesn’t belong on a roadrace track. It goes to the autocross or drag strip, but I don’t think it’s going anywhere near a roadrace track while I own it unless I decide to add the appropriate safety equipment, and I don't see that in the cards.

Agreed, my track car is a race car and properly equiped mostly, the driver may be the exception. Paul is defininitely going to track his car so that's why
I asked about running that hot setup at the track.

Da man do have a lead foot!

Cool! Chuck Itzenthaler let you drive his V8 Fiero? Hey, does that show air over there in Maryland, too? We know Bill Wildt here. Great guy, with an ENORMOUS Passion for absolutely Anything with an engine.

Yes, Bill has done a few shows with V8 Archie. He has some really cool cars out there. And he has some with Custom bodywork. And, I can totally agree with what all of those guys have said....THAT is THE CAR that Pontiac should have built. A V8 Fiero. Absolutely incredible in that form. Great handling car, too.

I will probably head over to the Chevy/Vettefest this weekend at McCormick Place in Downtown Chicago. (April 1st. & 2nd.) with my very enthusiastic 8 year old son. Bill always covers those shows. And Chuck usually brings his V8 Fiero there, too.

What kind of Micro Cars do you have? Messerschmidt? Isetta? Nash Metropolitan? I saw one of those all tubbed out with giant slicks in back, and a huge Motor in front. That was pretty cool!
