Time to start the Chicago and Great Lakes event 2023 thread. Let's start with a non automotive event just to be different. Navy Pier June 16th and 17th. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ferrari Club of America Chicago Chapter is still working on a new location for the annual March art/literature event maybe for 2023, but not for sure. More to be posted as it becomes available. I am posting the WEC calendar as the first 2023 race for the new factory Ferrari prototype will be in the USA at Sebring in March. You can bet I will be there. Image Unavailable, Please Login
We lost so many events. Art show at Continental Concours at LFSC Italian village lunch Oak street/Fulton concours What happened?
Well you can blame the Art show and LFSC concours on NIMBY's, the Ferrari factory controlling public events at dealers and Covid, atleast that's the excuses they are using.
They used to, so that is a good point. Seems like Ferrari, driven by the factory has chosen to go more exclusive with the events they allow. It think it will hurt them in a few years if they don't change that attitude.
Not sure if it will be worth going to unless they bring in some special concept cars. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Road America main events schedule. I cannot say enough about this track. I have been to alot of tracks in North America and this is the best one for spectator's hands down. Like a park with a wonderful track in it. They just repaved it this winter. Should be great for club track events also, until NASCAR has time to ruin the new pavement !! Maybe sooner than a few years depending on member reactions. Found this thread https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/ferrari-trying-to-take-over-ferrari-club.654112/ which discusses the mike sheehan published article: https://ferraris-online.com/cavallino-thanks-for-your-years-of-dedication-now-piss-off/ Interesting since this discusses much of what members are now noticing about this club. Locally, I really like the Fuel Fed events and I'm considering joining their club for the 2023 season. Also, Skokie sponsors this event on Monday nights. https://skokiecarshows.com/ went to a couple last year and they were fun.
Man this is sad. And probably decided by people who don't attend club events. I remember when we did our first enzo drive back in 2004, a friend was working for FNA and said some salesmen who were invited to track events with customers were afraid of going on the track/at speed with instructors. Just shows the disconnect between corporate and what Ferrari was. It's really becoming a luxury brand and just that.
Great news for the Road America Historical races this year. We will be getting the Master's Historical Racing classic F1 and prototypes during the Road America BRIC historic weekend, one of only 3 events in North America this year. The others being Laguna Seca but not during the Historics in August, instead as a June race. And last the USGP support race. If you like vintage F1 cars this is the group to watch. @Dave Bendl - I would highly suggest joining FuelFed if you are on the fence. There are a couple, if not several, members on here that are members. The club is a great group of people. I have been a member since 2018 and have certainly enjoyed it. There are ‘opens’ where the general public are invited, but also member only events and drives that don’t necessarily get posted here.
Thank you WJC for the heads up. I will be doing just that. I was at the Wilmette event 2022 and in 2021 as well. Enjoyed how FuelFed put the event together. Reminded me of what FCA events once were for members not long ago. Their main focus was always on their members. I'm not sure that's the main intent anymore.
Chicago Auto Show 2023 I might go this year. Maserati and Alfa will have a display and atleast 5 concept cars will be on display from several manufactures. I see no Porsche, Audi or Mercedes ??, but almost everybody else. Lamborghini and Mclaren will be in the supercar display area and Aston Martin will also be there. The most exciting car might be the MC20 at the Maserati display !! I hope Alfa brings an F1 Sauber with.
FuelFed/The Last Detail Swap Meet 2/18/2023 I just joined FuelFed a couple of days ago so I went to their Swap meet today held at the Last Detail and really glad I did. Had a great time. Found several FCA Members there including Illinois Chapter Board Leaders. We had quite a chat. Found and met new friends with other brands of Euro classic autos that interest me and I hope to see them at upcoming FuelFed events. This is a great social event that allows members to share, swap stories, and experiences. I was really impressed with The Last Detail. Their store and shop was impeciable. I'm including some a my photos. Thank you FuelFed staff and The Last Detail for the event. My favorite? The Lambo Miura...
