Chicago Auto Show Summer edition starts today. Only concept I see is the Nissan Z concept. They seem to have a large supercar display this year so it might be worth it. It's summer so maybe a few interesting collector cars will show up on display. They should have opened up historical Motors Row on Michigan Avenue a block away and made this a big event. Or maybe they did include a few of the 1920's-1930's dealerships?. It seems to be spread out more than usual.

So I went over to the Klairmont Kollections and have to say it was very interesting. He loves Rolls Royce's and also has alot of one off show cars done for auto shows. The big Lincoln with an Aston Martin V12 is my favorite but the vintage American cars also left a good impression. Worth the visit without a doubt. He has alot of movie cars, replicas and customs in the back showroom, so something for everyone. Not many Ferrari's but this is mainly a vintage car museum. I understand in the city of Chicago there are 2 or three more museums like this, but smaller. I have to check out the one by Motor Row on South Michigan Avenue someday. Now if Joe Bortz would only offer tours for his showcar collection :)

And by the way, the Klairmont Kollection's has 350 cars, 300 of wich are on display at the museum. This would be a great place for a Fuelfed event as they have a large parking lot big enough for a club event.

Thanks for the pics and the details.

I own a couple of apartment buildings near this place. Kelvin Park is a very pleasant spot.

I have going there on my bucket list but haven't made the effort as the Kollection is so focused on eclectic vehicles.

The owner has an amazing portfolio of commercial real estate

Yes he does have a huge portfolio and he is leaving the automobile collection and museum property in a trust so it will go on for many years to come. He is 94 and has many properties including the whole block around the museum and 350 cars. He had 450 cars but sold around 100. This museum is like a time machine. It's not just the cars but also the way he made it look like the 1920's and 1950's inside. Full gas stations and movie theaters make this an interesting museum. He has some really top quality cars in the from rooms with the lesser customs and replicas in the back rooms. It really is an amazing place and has two floors, but it has a pre war focus along with American cars from the 1950's and 1960's, lots of them.

Spent a couple days at Road America over the weekend for the Weathertech vintage racing event. The amount of beautiful F cars as well as everything else crawling around town it's like falling out of bed into automotive heaven. If you haven't been it's a must to put on the calendar.

Very sad news. They said he was in Florida last week when I vistited. I met him and his wife at a concours several years ago, very nice people and he did have a wild taste in cars. The purple Rolls did very well at Pebble Beach after he had it restored and won it's class. Go see his collection, it will put a smile on your face.
