I am from the DC area and am in the market for a Ferrari to call my own. I've been shopping around and found a car that holds some interest to me. It is a 2008 F430 spyder located in the Chicago area. It is not at a dealer but at a private shop. If I would like to get a PPI on the car before flying out there to take a look at it myself, does anyone have a recommendation for a place/person that could do a reasonably thorough look around to make sure there are no significant issues that would change it's market value? What do people think of the factory dealerships as far as getting a car inspected there? How much should I expect to pay for an inspection that looks at the major systems in the car, inspects the frame/body for signs of damage and possibly checks the compression of the engine?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

I highly recommend Euroquipe in St. Charles. They have always done my PPI's. www.euroquipe.com or (630) 377-3774.

Ferrari Dealer - Continental AutoSports in Hinsdale - just outside of Chicago. That's the only place I've had my Maseratis serviced. Good service and reasonable (for Ferrari work) prices.

Independant - AutoSprint - Chicago. I've never used them but have heard of nothing but good things about them. They specialize in high end Italian automobiles and have the training and equipment.

Expect to pay around $300... (Roughly 2 hours of labor at $150 / hour). Probably around $500 if you want a very thourough inspection with engine cylinder leak down compression checks.

I forgot to mention that Euroquipe recently purchased this diagnostic tool which I'm told very very few Ferrari service centers have. I would definitely weigh that especially if considering a newer Ferrari.

Thanks for the info. In fact, the seller is also recommending Euroquipe for an inspection. My reference locally here gives me the impression that a purely visual check should be sufficient for these cars as all of the mechanical subsystems are quite reliable. Obviously, I'd want a thorough check for frame damage or paintwork as well as a thorough cosmetic report and making sure all the various little electric/electronic bits work.

Is anyone near West Chicago (zip 60185)? Has anyone ever dealt with Chicago Motor Cars? If anyone has been there in the last couple of weeks, I'm considering the black F430 convertible they have there.

Talk to Rick S. at Chicago Motor Cars. He is a stand-up guy. You won't be disappointed.

If you need someone to take a lookie, let me know. I would like a reason to stop by there.

Interestingly enough, Rick is actually the salesperson who initially picked up the phone when I called inquiring about the car last week. So I have been dealing with him. Seems like a good enough chap. If you are near there and can give me their 2008 Black F430 Spyder a close once-over, it would be much appreciated. I guess I'm very curious what kind of condition the paint is in with 10,000 miles on it -- are there alot of rock chips or other cosmetic boo-boos just from having been out in the wild jungles our interstate system. Is the front or rear fascia scraped up from speed humps, driveways, or curbs? What about the wheels? Scuffs or rash? And just sort of the overall "originalness" of the cars interior? These are things that are difficult to convey in pictures but become readily apparent with just a quick pass of the fingertips over a surface.

There is actually another car I am interested in at Continental Auto Sports in Hinsdale. It is a 2006 Black/Tan with 7100 miles. If anyone has actually laid eyes on this car recently and can give a brief appraisal, that would be much appreciated.
