http://losangeles.craigslist.org/zip/110021845.htmlWe are looking for a good home for a mismatched pair of chickens. We were already planning to get rid of them when we found out that one of them is actually a rooster--which explains why "she" hasn't laid any eggs yet. He started crowing for the first time at 6 a.m. yesterday morning. Fortunately, unlike other chickens we've owned, he apparently only crows for a few minutes in the morning; we've had others go on all day and night.

We received them as gifts earlier this year. We got the rooster (some type of silkie?) in February as a little chick. The reddish-brown hen was purchased from a local egg ranch but her age is unknown.

The positives: The hen is a really good egg layer, providing a medium brown-shelled egg almost daily with occasional rest breaks for a week or two. She will allow you to pick her up and hold her. Both love to eat table scraps and bugs.

The negatives: Poop and more poop. Now that we know one's a rooster, the crowing could be annoying to you and neighbors. They've been digging up the lawn and planters to look for bugs and worms. Also, the rooster is really fast and won't allow you to pick him up.

This pair is free to a good home, preferably one in which the chickens have room to roam. You must be willing to deal with the poop, digging and crowing. Finally, the henhouse MIGHT be available for free as well. We've offered it to a neighbor but it's yours if she doesn't want it and you do. Please ask about it when you call if interested.

We would prefer they go as a pair since they get along well together. Please call my wife at (951) 833-3112 if interested in the chickens.
