2nd Annual Dream Ride and Concours for kids Sat Jun 2 9am Exotic car volunteer chauffeurs drive from Turner Field Gold Lot to Ferrari/Maserati/Aston Martin of Atlanta Bribe the Judge Concours with all proceeds to benefit Ronald McDonald House and Camp Sunshine RSVP to [email protected] Two great causes, last year was fun, this year should be too!
So this year we are going the reverse route? I think I can make the event. It sure was fun last year.
I may not be able to make it this year. My engine is still losing the entire rear bank when it warms up. This even after I replaced the cracked distributor on that half. Used to run fine as long as it was above 3500 or so, now it won't run that bank at all at ANY rpm when it is up to temp. I was damn lucky it carried me back to Birmingham after the Mitty. (She was looking out for me.) I have it narrowed down to either the coils or the crank sensors. I am putting new coils on this week. Maybe I'll get lucky. Well see. If it is up and running by Thurs, I'll be there for sure.
Should have just gotten rid of the distributors and old-style coils with the upgraded Electromotive XDI setup! It would have been a good time since you're replacing some of the old parts anyway...
It's a $$ issue right now. I agree with you but new coils are dirt cheap and I can put them on in my driveway in 30 minutes. The other option will mean taking my car to Huntsville. Probably $1500 and 400+ miles of driving when it's done. I am going to do it but it will probably be a winter project.
I was on a drive this past Sunday with a bunch of Lotus folks, and we spoke about it. There will be a couple of Elise's there (one guy did it last year in fact and was the only Lotus), and I'll have my 996 C4S....... Few of us are gonna meet @ the WaffleHouse X12/Rt400 about 7:15, b'fast, and leave 8:15ish. (Andy/andy308 and I are leaving my house 7am to head there). So that alone would be Andy's 308, my C4S, and a few Lotus......... mini-caravan on down, so if you're in the area stop-on-by.
I was down in the paved infield with a team running a Lotus Europa that weekend. Right in front of the bridge. Doesn't look like I am going to make it. That is unless someone wants to ride in an Alfa Romeo. That one is running.
Here's a link over to Lotus-land with a few neat pics from the event today. (check out the panorama one) http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=705121#post705121
Thanks kamma for the nice pics. And big thanks to everryone who participated and made this a day to remember for a bunch of special kids.
I enjoyed the day, aside from the drive itself, which was very erratic due to an apparent lack of numbers in the police escort. There were wide variations in the speeds we were able to maintain (what the CB'ers call "rubber-banding"), with the result that the trip was hard on the brakes. I hope they increase the police presence next year, at least to what it was a year ago. But the important thing is that the kids enjoyed the ride, and we enjoyed having them along. Mine was a very nice Hispanic girl who had never been outside the Perimeter! So I think the trip was extra-special for her. And I didn't see anything except a smile on any of the kids all day long. (Just to put everything in perspective: when I arrived at Turner Field, Josh, the young fellow coordinating the activities for the benefiting charities, came to me and told me that, sadly, the young leukemia patient who had ridden with me last year was no longer with us. But his family had told Josh to tell me that that day was one of the happiest of his young life, and that made me feel better.) Photos coming shortly.
Okay, I think these photos dovetail very nicely with the ones on the elisetalk forum (I love that panoramic shot! Howdedodat?) I didn't get every car, but I think I've got a representative selection. The biggest contingents were Aston Martin, Ferrari and Lotus (in no particular order), but we did have the Andruw Jones collection (Mercedes SLR and Bentley convertible), a couple of Quattroportes, a pair of Porsches, ditto on Ford GTs, a Jaguar E-type and even a nice old Pontiac GTO! The star attraction was undoubtedly the Spyker C8, a car many had never seen before. Surprisingly, no Lamborghinis. More pics later. The Mercedes SLR McLaren was driven by Nicole Jones, wife of Braves outfielder Andruw Jones, who also owns the Bentley. Along with the Spyker it got the most attention, and those two cars wound up winning the "concours" held later at FoA. Now for the rest of the photos from FoA, including Bob's white Porsche. The little green one wasn't part of the Ride; he just happened to pass by and stopped in to see what all the fuss was about. I found the contrast between the old GTO and the new SLR to be quite striking: "performance" each in its own way. And, as you can see, the Enzo was back on the showroom floor, still with its $652,000 price sticker.
